SWA Championship Wrestling Unchained Episode #29 11/1/2024

This can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=23Sz9TAR8xk

We're in New Augusta, Mississippi.

Black Ranger #5 vs Hillbilly Joe

They say Joe is the dean of Hillbilly University. Joe's the Deep South champ and Black is half of the tag champs. Black has Black Ranger #1 and #3 with him. Black clubs on Joe and chokes him on the ropes. Black hits some punches then Ranger #3 hits shots on Joe. Black hits some punches on Joe and Joe starts to hulk up.

Joe stares him down then hits some punches. Black goes down then has his head banged off the buckles. Joe hits snake eyes on Black and rams his butt into him in the corner. Joe gets ready for a lariat and Black Ranger #3 gets in the ring. #3 beats up Joe for the DQ.

Thoughts: It wasn't much here with a lame finish. At least the ref called for the DQ though. A masked guy vs a hillbilly is the type of match I'd want to see on a show like this though.

Joe takes a 3v1 and is saved by Doc Gracie with a chair. Doc asks The Ranger's how it's going. He says he will take the tag titles back when his tag partner returns. Doc says he and Joe should fight The Black Rangers. Someone then comes out and makes this official.

Hillbilly Joe and Doc Gracie vs The Black Ranger #3 and #5

Black Ranger #1 is still with his buddies. 3 (the heavier Ranger) and Doc start us off. Dock backs up 3 in the corner. 3 then backs up Doc in the corner. Doc side headlocks him and snapmares him. Doc hits a sliding lariat. Joe gets in and hits some shots on 3. 3 punches back then Joe hits more punches.

Joe shoulders 3 over. Joe blocks punches and 3 gets frustrated then tags out. 5 gets in and is knocked down with shots from Joe. Joe chops 5 then wristlocks him. Doc 2nd rope elbow drops 5's arm then chops 5. Doc snapmares him and armlocks him.

5's head is banged off the buckles and Doc hits some corner spears. Doc boots 5 in the corner and gets caught in tree of woe. 5 boots him as he hang then low dropkicks him. The Rangers choke and pounds on Doc on the ropes. 5 hits a backbreaker on Doc.

5 clubs on Doc then holds his arm for a kick to the ribs from 3. 3 stomps on Doc then chinlocks him. Doc is choked on the ropes from Ranger #1. Doc's head is banged off the buckles and 5 hits corner spears. 5 running facekicks Doc.

5 legdrops Doc for 2. 3 hits shots on Doc. Doc rolls over 3's back and flying lariats him. Both guys tag out. Joe back body drops 5 then big boots 3. Joe knocks both opponents down with shots. Joe rams his butt into 3 in the corner then then running clotheslines 5. Doc gets on Joe's shoulders and elbow drops 5. Doc picks up the win over 5.

Thoughts: Joe and #3 had issues working together and Joe didn't have the best strikes here. Despite that, they knew what they were supposed to do here and did their best to work the traditional face vs heel match. It was pretty average though and could have been a little shorter.

The Varsity talk from a podium. There's 3 of them. They said they are feeling good after a big win. They say they don't worry about the past or the present, just the future. And they say the future is looking pretty bright. They say they are going for the tag titles next and says they aren't satisfied. They said they beat every version of The Rebellion except one and said they want to challenge them. They say it's on November 9th, if The Rebellion accepts. They then say, "Go Varsity".

Overall thoughts: It's a smaller indy and of course they have a limited budget and a more localized roster. We had 2 new matches on this one and one interview. The first match lead to the 2nd match after a DQ finish. The DQ finish wasn't good but at least it wasn't for nothing. The 2nd match could have had better execution but the wrestlers had the right idea. It wasn't must see and was about what you would expect from an indy of this size. There were no flips and no indy style wrestling here though which was refreshing. The show was average.
