WWF Superstars of Wrestling 7/7/1990
Last week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2024/02/wwf-superstars-of-wrestling-6301990.html
They are still at the Broome County Arena. Jesse Ventura and Vince McMahon talk about Broome County having the largest carousel collection and being the carousel capital of the world. Jesse wants to know why they'd have carousels of horses in Broome County when you wouldn't use a broom to clean up after them.
Demolition (Smash and Crush) vs Jim McPherson and Mike Pocari
They had promised last week we would see all 3 members here, but that's clearly not happening in a wrestling role. Smash double axe handles Jim. Demolition do an inset promo. They said they are afraid of nobody and didn't get a 3rd member out of fear for them. Smash said he doesn't care about them, just keeping their belts.
Tony is banged into Crush' boot then Crush hits a nice dropkick. Crush boots and clubs Mike. Smash clubs on Mike's chest then throws him out. Ax boots Mike outside then Mike takes a demolition decapitation. Crush picks up the win on Mike.
It was a quick squash here and fine for what it was. Crush had a nice dropkick.
Vince said the Hart's will be breathing down Demolition's necks.
WWF Update
Mean Gene Okerlund says Hulk Hogan is getting better. He says Hulk will make the most important announcement of his career, speculating whether he will return or retire. The Rockers say it's okay to get knocked down as long as you get back up. They said all the Rockers and Hulkamaniac's need to band together to hope he comes back. Hillbilly Jim said Hulk has been down before but he knows he can reach down inside of him and come out the way he knows he can. Slick and Warlord say Hulk won't come back and he's been a disgrace to the WWF long enough. Brutus Beefcake says he and Hulk have a special bond. He said Earthquake will never be man enough to put Hulk out of wrestling. Jimmy Hart and Quake talk. Quake says Hulk won't come back and won't be the same man again after the quakes he gave him.
Tito Santana vs "Playboy" Buddy Rose
They lock up and Buddy clean breaks him. Tito side headlocks him then headlock takeovers him. Jesse Ventura says the WWF Rule Book says nothing about the Demolition situation. Buddy steps over the top rope to escape a headlock, then comes back in. Tito drops him. Tito punches and dropkicks him. Vince says the rumor is Buddy will get a tummy tuck.
Tito side headlocks Buddy and Buddy slams him. Buddy goes up top and is thrown off. Tito flying forearms him and wins it.
It was a quick match, not so much a squash. Buddy got a little in here and was entertaining as usual.
Bad News Brown vs Mike Bee
Mike gets jumped from behind when Brown enters. Brown headbutts him and makes him convulse off a punch. Mike has some ugly gear on then is rebounded down off the ropes. Brown elbow drops him. Brown does an inset promo. He said Jake Roberts tried to take the advantage on him because of his fear of snakes. Brown said he went to a hypnotist and was cleared of his fear of snakes in 2 visits.
Brown throws Bee out and brings him back in. Bee pulls a toy snake out of his tights and Brown runs away. Brown comes back in and nails Bee from behind. Brown drops Bee then hits a ghetto blaster enzugiri. Brown then wins with a foot on the chest pin.
It was a fun little squash that pushed Brown's fear of snakes. Brown was kind of over the top though being scared of a toy snake.
Bee is thrown out hard over the top after and Brown stomps the toy snake. Brown throws the timekeeper and grabs his chair. Brown drops the chair on the toy snake.
WWF Event Center with Sean Mooney
They hype the 7/14/90 Boston Garden show. Mr. Perfect and Bobby Heenan do a promo. Perfect says Heenan is the greatest manager and says Mr. Perfect is perfect at everything he does. Perfect said him and Heenan are a force never seen before in the WWF and they have all it takes together. Heenan says Brutus will suffer the consequences for bringing the scissors. Hercules says Akeem is a big man, close to 400lbs. He says if you can pick up 400lbs over your head, you're a big and tough man too. Herc says he will just do that with Akeem and show him only the strong survive.
"Superfly" Jimmy Snuka vs Chris Duffy
Duffy hits him from behind then is chopped in the corner. Snuka goes up and over and chops him. Snuka chops him on the ropes then hits him in the gut. Duffy then goes out. Snuka suplexes Duffy in. Snuka top rope splashes Duffy and picks up the win.
Duffy tried to do a big bump here for a Snuka chop but couldn't make it over the top. It wasn't much but chops and a superfly splash.
WWF Event Center with Sean Mooney
Boris Zhukov does a promo on Nikolai Volkoff. He says Volkoff needs an attitude adjustment. He said he committed treason and people who commit treason get punished in ways he can't say. He said he is going to enjoy punishing him and listening to him scream in mercy. He says he will make Volkoff sing the Russian national anthem and says he will pay. Sean asks Duggan how he will avoid the same fate of Hulk. Duggan says he will be facing Quake face to face so he can't get him from behind. He said Quake is tough when he comes from behind you but wants to see what courage he has when he's looking at him in the eye. He said he will fight him tooth and nail.
Rhythm and Blues vs Tony Ulysses & George Skaaland
Vince asks if George is....and says nah, couldn't be. R&B does an inset promo. Honky says Hunka Hunka Honky Love is #13 in the nation and Greg says just like them, it will soon be #1. Greg elbows George then Honky punches George. Honky boots Jim then Greg chops Tony. Greg suplexes Tony and hits an elbow drop. Jesse says he should be called "Greg Elvis Valentine". Tony takes a double back elbow and a double backdrop. Honky gets the win.
It was just a quick squash. Phil McPherson was listed as George's partner here on the screen, but Vince says it's Tony Ulysses and I believe that is correct. This also means that this was not Tony Ulysses in the first match, but after some research, was Jim McPherson.
R&B sing Hunka Hunka Honky Love after and Jesse joins in.
The Brother Love Show with Nikolai Volkoff
Love calls Volkoff a traitor and a disgrace to the US and Russia. Love asks him why he's taking part in the hoax that is world peace. Volkoff says it's not a hoax. He said the US and Iraqi president can shake hands, then he thinks the whole world can have peace. Love asks why he turned his back on Boris Zukov. Volkoff said the only mistake he made when turning on him was letting him jump him. Volkoff says he hopes the US people will be behind him. "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan comes out. He calls George Bush his friend and gives Volkoff a US flag. He says he wants to be the first to welcome him to the US. He welcomes him as a brother and friend and says "God Bless America". Volkoff then waves the US flag as American music plays.
"Macho King" Randy Savage vs "Jumping" Jim Brunzell
Sherri is with Macho and they are carried out on a throne. Sherri does an inset promo on Savage. She said no one gives royal treatment better than him and says there is no one better in the WWF than him. Macho has an unusual bodysuit on with various road signs. I've never seen that one before.
Macho arm throws him and is shouldered over. Macho slides out to regroup. Jim monkey flips him then Macho throws his shirt at Jim. Jim hits a nice dropkick then Sherri gets on the apron. Jim argues with her and is rolled up. Macho back elbows him then Jim puts Macho in the sleeper. Macho's mouth is bleeding.
Jim rolls up Macho for 2 then takes a boot to the gut. Macho punches and elbows him. Jim puts him in another sleeper. Sherri gets on the apron and Macho throws Jim off towards her. Sherri ducks and Jim goes out. Jim is knee'd in the back and goes into the post outside. Macho top rope double axe handles him outside then slams him inside. Macho top rope elbow drops him and picks up the win.
It was a rather competitive match here with Jim getting put over a bit. Macho bled from the mouth and Sherri nearly getting hit was an interesting spot. This was one of the more interesting squashes in a while.
Bobby Heenan does a promo. He said this months edition of the WWF Magazine has stories on The Heenan Family. He said he will read it 10, 12, 15 times.
The Big Boss Man vs Barry Hardy
Boss hits a nice punch then lariats him. Boss throws him backwards then leg lariats him over the middle rope. Boss hits a mean looking shoulderbreaker over the knee. Ted Dibiase and Virgil do an inset. Ted says the people of Cobb County are disgusting hicks and Boss Man doesn't even meet that.
Boss knees Barry in the shoulder and back elbows his shoulder. Barry is thrown into the buckles and goes down. Boss kicks him in the shoulder and double axe handles it. Boss hits a side walk slam and gets the win.
It was your usual quick squash with Boss doing a lot of work on the shoulder before hitting the sidewalk slam on it.
Boss handcuffs Barry to the ropes and threatens him. Boss doesn't beat his opponent this time, but handcuffing your opponent isn't exactly a face move either.
WWF Event Center with Sean Mooney
Earthquake and Jimmy Hart have funeral flowers for Hulk. Quake says Duggan will get his too when he's done with him. Quake says nobody hits him in the back with a 2x4 and says Duggan will get the same thing as Hulk. The Bushwhackers do a promo. Butch said he's feeling good as they get their hands on Rhythm and Blues soon. Luke said he can't wait to put his hands in their hair and do what they do best. Butch says they want to beat them up and rough them up and then destroy them once and for all.
Vince and Jesse hype up next week's show, wondering if Hulk will retire or return. Jesse said he's holding his breath and waiting for the announcement, all the way until next week. Jesse then walks off the set.
Overall thoughts: Not a lot of news here except for Hulk making his big announcement next week. Macho King got roughed up in a near even match with Jim Brunzell and Hacksaw welcomed Volkoff to the US.
