WWE Velocity 9/18/2004
Bill Demott and Josh Matthews are on commentary here.
Paul London vs Akio
They trade wristlocks. Paul rolls out and headscissors him down. They try pin attempts and then stand off. Paul side headlocks him and shoulders him over. Paul then rolls him up with his feet. Akio flips off of him in the corner then has his back double stomped. Akio slingshots from the apron and takes a northern lights suplex.
Akio single arm ddt's him then stomps him. Akio armlocks him then shoulders his arm. Akio lifts him by the arm and is rolled up. Paul is sent into the post by the shoulder and Akio dropkicks his shoulder. Akio does a hold on his shoulder and Paul armdrags out of it.
Paul jawbreakers him, then hits a hurricanrana and jumping leg lariat. Akio boots him in the corner then takes a dropsault. Paul goes up top and is kicked. Akio 2nd rope hurricanrana's him for 2. Paul flips out of a german and does a double chicken wing bomb to win it.
The finish didn't look good but the match was fine otherwise. Paul didn't get to do a lot here and Akio mostly stuck to the shoulder work. The announcers heavily talked about the Paul London vs Billy Kidman feud that was going on at the time. Demott accused Josh of being a homer for Paul many times.
Mark Jindrak vs Shannon Moore
Mark Jindrak was doing his "reflection of perfection" gimmick here and his music sounded like something out of Star Trek or a soap opera.
Mark nails him before it starts and rubs his face off the floor. Mark hits elbow drops and drops him with a punch. Mark chokes him on the ropes and Moore springboard leg lariats him. Mark hits a nice lariat then Moore is beale thrown into the buckles. Mark chokes him in the tree of woe and tells the ref he doesn't care anymore. Mark stomps him and the ref starts counting as Shannon is on the ropes. The ref counts to five as Mark stomps him and Mark is disqualified.
This was an odd finish and definitely disappointing. Moore didn't get much in at all here before the finish.
Luther Reigns vs Eddie Watts
Luther bearhugs him then pushes him over the top to the floor. Luther puts him back in and kicks him as his head hangs from the apron. Luther rams him into the corner and back elbows him. They said Luther has been stabbed, shot and had his throat slit from ear to ear. They said he was in prison as well.
Luther short arm lariats him. Luther puts him in a single leg crab and Bill says him and Eddie were partners in 1993 in Mexico. Eddie gets some kicks in then is booted in the gut. Luther does a nice butterfly suplex. Luther hits a twisting reverse ddt and wins it.
It was a quick squash but I liked it. They put over Luther well here as a bad dude and I found Eddie to be likeable. Eddie took a nice bump on his fall to the floor. I always liked Luther/Horshu and I have no idea why WWE dropped him so quick.
Scotty's jumping all around here during his entrance. OJ trips him and gets his back. OJ hits corner spears then Scotty hits armdrags and a dropkick. The ref breaks the two up and OJ nails him over top the ref. OJ footchokes him then hits a punch combo with some shuffling.
OJ chinlocks him then knees him in the gut. Scotty's head is banged off the buckles then he is crossfaced over the 2nd rope. OJ hits more shots and Scotty superkicks him. Scotty kips up and fires up. He hits punches then lariats him. Scotty rolls him up off a slam attempt. OJ blocks a bulldog then botches his neckbreaker to win it.
It wasn't that great of a match especially with OJ botching his finisher. Scotty's comeback was the best thing in this one. OJ didn't really impress or do much but punches.
Overall thoughts: There wasn't much to see here. There were 2 squashes and 2 regular matches. We had 2 botched finishes on this one and Jindrak got himself DQ'd by not getting off his opponent in a lame ending. Bill Demott was also not very good on commentary here. I wouldn't recommend this.
