NXT Vengeance Day 2024 2/4/2024
We see clips of Bron Breakker and Baron Corbin talking in the back. Corbin said he has a big entrance planned and couldn't get in touch with Bron for it, so Bron is on his own. Later, Bron thanks him for teaming with him.
They find Joe Gacy messing around near the garbage. Joe said he found stuff to hit Gacy with in the dumpster he was thrown in, but couldn't bring it on the plane. He then pulls out a kendo stick and a chain and asks Kelly if she wants to give it a try. Joe then says hi to the "guys in Stanford" when Kelly tries to take us back to them.
Booker is not on commentary today as Vic and Wade are.
Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Finals - The Wolfdogs (Baron Corbin and Bron Breakker) vs Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams
Bron got the win with a spear on Melo, after Melo pushed Trick out of the way. It was sloppy at times but I thought it was a fun match. Corbin did a dive to the outside. Bron did a top rope swanton outside and did his backdrop into a cutter and they had a lame spot where Melo was put on Trick and Bron german'd Trick. Bron and Baron entered on motorcycles, though they didn't wear the same outfits due to it being a last minute thing as they said earlier in the show. I'd like to see them have another crack at this one because the pieces were all there and it was a fast paced match. I think they could do it better in a rematch, especially since Trick wouldn't have a second match later in the night to worry about, giving him room to do more.
No Disqualification - Dijak vs Joe Gacy
Gacy has a new entrance with masks and his face on the tron laughing. Gacy had a trash can over his head and used it as a battering ram on Dijak in a cool spot. Dijak went to springboard in the ring and was pushed back into a table with legos on top. Naturally, Dijak was up seconds later no selling it. Dijak took a release german off the top and missed the trash can he was supposed to land on. Dijak's eyes were covered in duct tape and Dijak hit a GTH on Gacy, but couldn't find him to pin him. Dijak ended up winning with a GTH. It wasn't that good with them doing too much and not selling that well.
Thea and Jacy were selling calendars (which they released on WWE.com) and they introduced Jazmyn Nyx. Karmen Petrovic was also signing calendars even though I don't think she's on it. Jacy said it's only a matter of time until Chase U is saved from debt. Someone online had a funny line saying, "Oh cool a calendar, exactly what I need in the middle of f**king February".
The D'Angelo Family (Tony D'Angelo, Stacks and Adrianna Rizzo) vs Out The Mud (Lucien Pirce, Bronco Nima and Jaida Parker)
Tony
won this with a fisherman's buster. Stacks got beat up for most of this,
taking cheap shots from Jaida and Scrypts outside. Price took a nasty
botched belly to belly on his head and Rizzo kicked Jaida hard in the
face off a cannonball. Jaida slapped Tony and was not DQ'd when she
should have been for it. Stacks was hip tossed over the top onto
opponents then Rizzo frogsplashed everyone off the top, which also
should have gotten her DQ'd for hitting the boys.
I didn't like this as there should have been multiple DQ's here for the girls hitting the boys.
NXT Women's Title - Lyra Valkyria vs Roxanne Perez
I lost my review for this. Things were going well then they had Lola Vice cash in her contract during the match. She ended up losing due to Tatum Paxley helping out Lyra Valkyria, who got the win. I didn't like them messing up what looked like a match with potential and I didn't like them making Lola look dumb. Why would anyone cash in during a match instead of after? It was obvious Lola wasn't winning due to how little she has been pushed, but they should have came up with something like Elektra Lopez costing her the match. The only thing I liked was that they included Tatum Paxley in the finish.
NXT North American Title - Oba Femi (c) vs Dragon Lee
Lee dropkicks him out, topes him and pounds on him. Lee is pulled down on the apron then Oba carries him into the ring. Lee dropkicks the ropes while he's getting in then is caught off the top rope. Lee dropkicks Oba into the buckles and 2nd rope double stomps him for 2.
Lee goes for the casadora and is spinebustered off of it. Oba suplexes him and throws him. Lee is pushed over the top by the throat then is backbreakered. Lee does an octopus in the air then hits step up enzugiri's. Lee tornado ddt's him then pumping knees him for 2.
Lee flying dropkicks him in the corner. Oba is powerbombed off the 2nd rope. Lee gets his flying headscissors blocked on the apron and Oba lariats him while he runs on the apron. Oba is ddt'd on the floorthen Lee is powerbombed onto a chair. Lee hurricanrana's him for 2 in the ring then is lariated. Oba throws him on a backdrop then pop-up powerbombs him for the win.
I thought it went a little longer than it needed to. But they worked the big vs small storyline well here and Oba did a good job in one of his first bigger matches.
Lexis King hits on Thea Hail at the autograph signing. Riley Osborne tells him to stop it and thye get into a fight that security breaks up.
Ava Raine is interviewed. She said every match has been incredible and it's been a great night. They ask her what's next and she says Roadblock and Stand and Deliver. She said Stand and Deliver will be the biggest event in WWE history. She said NXT will be back on the road.
We see video from Tuesday of Brinlee Reece talking with Blade and Enofe about things they liked and didn't dislike about their match. Nathan Frazer comes in and mocks this situation. Ax tries to tell him not to. Reece breaks it up and said they should wrestle. She then cartwheels out.
NXT Title - Ilja Dragunov (c) vs Trick Williams
Trick's mouth was bleeding some before this started then Ilja really made it bleed. Ilja got his nose busted open too. Ilja german'd Trick on the floor. Ilja death valley drivered him on the apron. Trick slapped him then Ilja slapped him multiple times in return.
Trick hit a uranage off the apron to the floor. Melo got in Ilja's face and was thrown into Trick's leg, injuring it. Trick hit Ilja with his own H-bomb and Ilja threw him on a powerbomb. Melo got on the apron, Trick was then pushed into the ref, knocking the ref and Melo down outside. Trick had the virtual pin on Ilja and a 2nd ref came in to count the pin but was too late. Ilja then hit a torpedo moscow on Trick and won it.
Melo tells him he was so close and he's his boy after. Melo then clips Trick from behind. Melo drove a chair into Trick's knee then hit it many times with a chair. Melo then sat on a chair and puts the TMG (Trick-Melo Gang) shirt on him. We got a loud "F**k You Melo" chant. Melo said it's the fans' fault and said they made him like this.
I would have had Melo turn on Trick during the match. Then Trick wouldn't have lost clean and Melo would have solidified his heel turn there instead of after. The match wasn't a classic but was good. The blood helped some here. This was all about the inevitable Melo turn on Trick that I think we all expected. While I hate to break up teams usually, Melo was not working as well as a face as he was a heel while Trick is. This solves that problem and gives Trick more time to improve for the eventual title run. Where Ilja goes out of all of this though is unknown.
Overall thoughts: Going in, it looked like the Trick-Melo show and that's what it was here as not much else felt like it mattered. It was an underwhelming ppv for the most part and not NXT's best stuff. I liked the main and the opener best, but the opener had room for improvement.
