New Japan Pro Wrestling 2/17/2024 CMLL Fantastica Mania 2024 Day 5

Las Chicas Indomables (La Jarochita & Lluvia) vs. Oedo Tai (Ruaka & Starlight Kid)

Kid and Jaro go at it. Kid side headlock takeovers her then is headscissored. Jaro does an STF on Kid then Kid pulls on Jaro's mask. Jaro pulls on Kid's mask. Kid headscissors Jaro from the mat, trips her then is armdragged. Jaro tilt-a-whirl backbreakers her then Kid armdrags her off the casadora. Kid trips Jaro and thye stand off.

Kid flying headscissors Jaro out then sends Lu with her. Kid botches an asai moonsault on both opponents outside. The girls try to tear off their masks and Ruaka flatliners Lu. Ruaka sentons her for 2 then crossfaces her.

Kid misses a corner charge on Lu then has her head banged off the buckle. Lu stomp flurries her in the corner and basement dropkicks her for 2. Lu hits forearms on Kid then Kid springboard twisting crossbodies her. Kid basement dropkicks her then standing moonsaults her. Kid goes for a submission and Jaro breaks it up.

Kid is tripped by Lu and Lu tears at her mask. Lu grounded chokes her while Jaro indian deathlocks Ruaka. Kid takes a double team facebuster then Lu flying headscissors Ruaka.  Ruaka takes a double team facebuster then a sliding dropkick to the face. Jaro hits a stiff lariat for 2. Jaro takes a double team suplex then Lu shotgun dropkicks Ruaka.

Kid does a combo headscissors + headlock takeover then Ruak splashes both opponents against the bottom rope. Kid top rope dives her opponent on accident then Lu does top rope dive to the outside. Jaro pulls on Ruaka's hair then Ruaka does a double chokeslam on her. Ruaka misses a top rope splash then takes a facewash kick from Jaro. Jaro indian deathlocks Ruaka and taps her out to win it.

It was better than you'd expect but still not that great. The Mexican women are just not super clean workers and there's only so much you can do about it. This ran a little long here. 

Difunto, Ryusuke Taguchi & Super KOKESHI Machine 2nd vs. Los Ingobernables de Japon (Tetsuya Naito & Yota Tsuji) & KAMAITACHI

RT = Ryusuke Taguchi, KT = Kamaitachi

LIJ jump their opponents to start and everyone fights outside. Naito tries to take Machine's mask and one of the announcers says, "he's trying to take his serial number off". Yota spanks RT then RT hits chest chops on him. RT is 3v1'd. He teases doing the LIJ pose but ends up taking a triple atomic drop off of it. RT is then booted out.

Honma takes a double lariat then is held for a KT falling headbutt. Dif is chopped in the corner, splashed and takes a triple basement dropkick. RT comes off the top, hits nobody and is stomped for it. RT hip attacks Yota then RT and Machine miss headbutts in stereo. RT hits a double hip attack then Machine does a falling headbutt drop.

Dif armdrags Yota then basement dropkicks him. Dif walks up the ropes and elbows Yota. KT unmasks Rt right in front of the ref. Dif messes up a top rope dive to the outside on Yota. Dif top rope swantons Yota for 2. Yota stomps Dif's foot and falcon arrows him for 2. Yota does a reverse rocking chair on Dif and submits him to win it.

It was a short but fast moving tag. Honma and Taguchi were both unmasked here and there should have been DQ's for it. Dif kind of messed up 2 of his 3 big spots here and it had comedy elements as expected.

Naito falling headbutt drops Honma after.

Atlantis Jr., Dark Panther, Hiroshi Tanahashi & YOH vs. House Of Torture (SHO & Yoshinobu Kanemaru), Hechicero & OKUMURA (w/Mima Shimoda)

 

Dark and YK start us off. They do some wrestling around and Dark pulls on his arm. Dark grabs YK's arms under him and lifts him. YK goes over top of him and sunset flips him. Atlantis and Oku go at it. Atlantis headscissors him then superkicks Sho. Oku spin kicks Atlantis and back elbows him. Yoh takes a 1v2 and double crossbodies his opponents. YK uppercuts Sho then Hech dropkicks Sho out.

Tana 2nd rope twisting crossbodies Hech then Tana has his legs split. Tana is double basement dropkicked then Atlantis takes running corner attacks. Atlantis is tripped and sliding dropkicked by Hech. YK works Atlantis' arm then Oku back body drops Atlantis.

The heels pull on Atlantis' mask then Atlantis flying hurricanrana's Hech. Dark is rolled into a double team ddt then Oku jawbreakers Dark. Oku back elbows him out of the ring then Yoh takes a 2v1. Tana takes a 4v1 then Atlantis does as well.

Atlantis tilt-a-whirl backbreakers 2 people then hits a double armdrag on the other 2. Tana dragon screws Oku, Sho, YK and Hech. Dark does a nice tope on Hech. Tana puts YK onto Sho then 2nd rope swantons both. Tana and Yoh do stereo cannonballs on the outside. Atlantis topes Oku then Hech la magistral's Dark for 2. Dark rolls Hech into a 2 count. Hech corner lariats Dark then step up knees him. Hech then does a rolling cut throat bow and arrow and submits Dark.

It was a little rushed to start but it came around and ended up being an okay match. The heels heeled it up here and Tana did a new dive here with the cannonball off the apron. It could have been a total nothing match but the wrestlers seemed inspired and tried here.

DOUKI & Templario vs. Brillante Jr. & Soberano Jr.

 

Temp slaps Sob, Sob rules out then springboard crossbodies him when he's not looking. Sob walks up Temp's knee and headscissors him. Temp then walk up the ropes springboard dropkicks him. The heels go after Brill and Sob's masks on the buckles.

The heels do a pop-up on Brill into a knee. Temp superkicks Sob then Brill springboard hurricanrana's Temp. Sob uses the ropes to hurricanrana Douki. Brill tope con hilos outside then Sob does a fosbury flop.

Back in the ring, Brill handstands and Temp misses a dropkick on him, doing a spinarooni on the way up. Sob tornillo's Temp off the top. Sob then hurricanrana's in mid-air out of a Temp powerbomb. Douki back elbows Sob then Sob does a bad powerslam on him. Sob 2nd rope moonsaults him then Douki turns it into a Douki chokey.

Douki is up top and Brill seated armdrags him down. Douki gets his knees up on Brill's split legged moonsault then Douki chokey's him. Brill dropkicks Douki then Sob does a nice tornillo tope. Sob hurricanrana's out of a 2nd rope powerbomb from Temp. Temp then pulls of Sob's mask and is disqualified.

They were having the best match of the tour so far and of course had to have a dirty finish to bring it down. It was really disappointing. There some were some nice dives here.

Temp beats up Sob and young lions after.

El Desperado, Rocky Romero & Tiger Mask vs. Francesco Akira, Mascara Dorada & Mistico

 

Tiger and Mistico start us off. Tiger takes him down and is armdragged. Tiger spin kicks him. Mistico hits kicks then handspring back elbows him. Mistico twisting springboard armdrags him then takes a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker. Akira and Rocky get in. Akira armdrags Rocky off the casadora then Akira flying headscissors and dropkicks him.

Despy and Dorada go at it. Dorada does flips off handsprings then twisting headscissors him. Despy nails Rocky on accident then pop-up drops Dorada. Droada gets suplexed then Rocky slaps Dorada. Dorada jumps off Despy's knee and hurricanrana's Rocky. Mistico springboard crossbodies Despy then handspring double armdrags Despy and Rocky. Mistico is popped up into a hurricanrana on Despy then headscissors Rocky over. Mistico then topes Rocky.

Mistico springboard dropkicks Despy. Despy tope con hilos outside nailing Mistico and Rocky. Tiger backbreakers Akira then double underhook suplexes him. Akira takes a 3v1 and a tiger driver from Tiger. Tiger takes superkicks from Akira then Dorada top rope tornillo armdrags Rocky. Mistico headscissors Despy out then Mistico and Dorada do stereo dives. Akira rolls up Tiger and gets the pin.

It was okay with some dives and fast paced action. Nothing great or memorable. They pushed a story with issues here between Rocky and Despy.

Interfaction Tag Team Tournament Third Place Match - Los Ingobernables de Japon (BUSHI & Titan) vs. La Fuerza Poblana (Pegasso & Stigma)

Stig has a Tiger Mask style mask on. Titan and Peg start us off. Titan wristlocks Peg and Peg reverses it. Titan rolls, kips up, bridges and headflips out of the wristlock. Peg sunset flips Titan and Titan rolls him into a pin attempt. They try to dropkick each other at the same time then headflip and stand off.

Bushi boots Stigma and throws him out. Stig spin kicks him then dragon screws him. Titan stops Stig's dive attempt. Stig takes a drop toe hold into a baseball slide. Stig lariats Bushi then makes Bushi ddt Titan by dropkicking him. Stig tope con hilos outside.

Titan mis-direction dives Sitg outside then Peg corkscrew topes outside. Titan goes up and over Peg in the corner then is lariated. Bushi back crackers Titan then is pulled down backwards. Titan limbos Stig then kicks him. titan jumps off Bushi's back and misses then Stig jumps off Bushi's back and nails Titan. Bushi takes a side slam + legdrop combo for 2.

Titan hits kicks and a dropkick on Peg. Titan walks the top rope and springboard splashes Peg. Titan and Stig trade forearms then Titan hits a stiff dropkick. Titan topes Stig outside then Bushi step up ezugiri's Peg. Peg takes a codebreaker into a springboard double stomp and is pinned.

It was a good tag and maybe the best thing on the tour so far. It had fast paced action with some nice dives and creative spots. This is what I wanted out of this tour, not mask ripping, dirty finishes and comedy.

Interfaction Tag Team Tournament Final Match - Los Depredadores (Magnus & Volador Jr.) vs. Los Guerreros Laguneros (Stuka Jr. & Ultimo Guerrero)

Vol wore a cool Volador/Tiger Mask combo mask while Magnus is essentially wearing a Volador mask. Ultimo hits Magnus with a towel before this starts. Stuka and Magnus lock up. Stuka pounds on him and Magnus shoulders him over. Mag spin and pump kicks him then back elbows him. Vol springboard corssbodies stuka and Vol is popped up into a double dropkick on his opponents.

They fight goes outside and the faces are sent into the chairs. Vol is tripped into a basement dropkick. Vol takes a double boot the Ultimo baseball slides Mag out. Vol is popped up into a Stuka kick. Vol does a handspring back elbow on the heels. Vol and Mag go for stereo dives. Vol hits his and Mag ends up doing a plancha on the other side.

Vol headscissors Stuka then is lariated by Ultimo. Ultimo and Vol corner lariat each other. Vol superkicks him. Stuka flipping neckbreakers and suplexes Vol. Stuka takes a 619. Vol is crotched up top then top rope crossbodies Ultimo. The faces both try pins and get 2 counts. Vol backcrackers Stuka and the faces go for double pins again.

Vol hits a top rope hurricanrana from Magnus hits a canadian destroyer and the faces both get 2 counts on the pin attempts. Ultimo 2nd rope gordbusters Vol then Stuka hits a top rope splash. Magnus hits a cutter. Ultimo then hits an Ultimo Guerrero special and wins it.

I wasn't a big fan of this one. They did too much and the double pins got repetitive. It also just wasn't that impressive compared to other stuff on the card yet was in the main event. It was pretty similar to the stuff we've been seeing with Ultimo and Stuka this tour.

Overall thoughts: It was the best night of the tour so far. The women did better than expected and the 2nd and 3rd matches from the top were good. Brillante's tag was going well but then they had a dirty finish. I wouldn't recommend this one though as there was nothing great on it.
