WOW Women of Wrestling Season 3, Episode 1

WOW Women of Wrestling Season 3, Episode 1

I used to be a big fan of the old WOW and was hoping it would return. We are in different times though and unfortunately, the current social structure of the world is not going to allow that version of WOW to exist.

We see them talk about the original WOW and how WOW is to showcase female athletes. They talk about wrestlers like The Best and Jungle Girl and we see pictures of Moolah. they run down more of the girls on the show and we start the show.

Dave McClane welcomes us to the show in front of a packed crowd. Stephen Dickey and AJ Mendez are our commentators along with McClane.

WOW Tag Title Tournament 1st Round - The Tonga Twins vs  Chantilly Chella and Randi Rah Rah

The twins get a haka dance entrance. Randi is one of the original WOW girls I think. Mark Harris is our ref.

They have a small ring here and Rand is thrown off one of the Twins' back. Randi spinning headscissors her and Chella hits kicks on a twin. Chella hits dropkicks then is caught coming off the apron and powerbombed on the apron. Chella takes a double chop from both opponents then is thrown into the corner. Chella takes shots in the corner then twisting 2nd rope crossbodies a twin.

Randi gets the hot tag in and hits a step up enzugiri then she forward cartwheels onto a twin. Randi misses a 2nd rope moonsault and the twins hit running hip attacks on their opponents in the corner. Randi takes a samoan drop + neckbreaker combo and the Twins pick up the win.

It was okay but they didn't know which Twin was which and didn't bother to tell us. It was just a simple match here with the faces getting a decent amount in.

We see clips of Kandi Krush shadow boxing and are told we will see a video of her.

We get an interview on Kandi. She looks weird, she's from Minnesota and she talks about her swimming background. She was a synchronized swimmer and said she left home at 16 to chase Olympic dreams. She said she was overtrained during her Olympic training and said the training was "toxic". She then said she was invited to learn how to box. She said her family didn't want her to box and then said she went into wrestling next.  This was really long and I thought they should have focused more on the wrestling aspects.

We see clips of Kandi hitting a punching bag and a Coach comes in. she blows her whistle, calls her noodle arms and says, "you think you are going to knock someone out with those punches?".

Coach Campanelli vs Kandi Krush

Kandi has very big boxing globes and we see that htis is a tribute to her grandmother.

Coach stalls early then Kandi hits a headlock takeover. Kandi shoulders her over then rolls her up. Kandi hits bad armdrags and they blow a clothesline spot. Coach pulls her down and rams her own self into the buckle. Kandi goes into the buckle then Coach slams her.

Coach works Kandi's hand then spinning neckbreakers her. Coach pulls both of her arms back and Kandi lariats her. Kandi F-U's her for 2. Kandi superman punches her and wins it.

This wasn't good. Kandi's really green.

We see clips of two sisters named Lori and Lindsay Carlson. They are riding in a nice car in Miami then wearing bikini's. We are told they will be here next week.

We see a female wrestler rapping. She's terrible. Her name is BK Rhythm and she says she's a rapper/wrestler. She said wrestling is like battle rapping and says she uses her lyrics to win over everyone. She said she got the chance at doing WOW through a tryout and impressed David McClane.

BK Rhythm vs Vivian Rivera

BK raps before her match and she's terrible at it. Viv flips her over her back and armdrags her. Viv trips her then does a bad la magistral. Viv sunset flips her but is punched. BK gets shots in then abdominal stretches her, then Viv sideslams her for 2. Viv snapmares her then rolls her into an armbar.

VIv rolls out of a clothesline then kicks and spinning neckbreakers her. Viv suplexes her and wins with a roll-up.

It was short, simple and not too good at all.

We see clips of The Beast throwing a rock.

We go to break and return and see Beast lifting and throwing cement blocks. She's the WOW champ and we see clips of her in the ring. We then see her pulling a train car.

Wee se clips of next weeks episode with a wrestler named Foxy Fierce.

Adriana Gambino vs The Beast

Gambino is working a mafia gimmick. AG escapes Beast early then Beast throws her by the hair. Beast misses a corner charge and is rolled up. AG puts her leg in the ropes and pulls on it then Beast hits a nice spinebuster.  Beast reverses her suplex and then suplexes her. AG corner splashes her then Beast blocks her gut punch. Best corner splashes her then sitout powerbombs her for the win.

It was short. Beast looked pretty good here and they didn't do too much. I don't know too much about Beast, but I could see someone picking her up.

Rina Del Rey comes up from behind her and then release german suplexes Beast. Beast lands right on her neck hard and then gets up. Beast is fuming in the ring as the show ends.

Overall thoughts: They kept the over the top gimmicks and kept the entrance videos like they did in WOW. They cut the hot blondes and the fanservice though, which was a lot of the appeal of the original WOW. It may change, but they spent a lot of time introducing the various wrestlers and they are treating the women as more serious wrestlers. While that's fine, the women aren't too good in the ring. I don't have a lot of hope for this version of WOW. I don't think the men want to watch less attractive women have bad matches and the reddit types are way too invested in AEW to support another promotion. I think their best bet is kind of becoming a charity case like the WNBA and hoping corporate interests outrank public interest.
