New Japan Pro Wrestling 8/6/2022 G1 Climax 32 Day 12

New Japan Pro Wrestling 8/6/2022 G1 Climax 32 Day 12

Here's what I saw:

Hiroshi Tanahashi and Kazuchika Okada vs JONAH and Bad Dude Tito

Jonah throws Okada back early. Jonah poounds on him. Okada running back elbows him and Jonah running forearms him over. Jonah then throws him into the rails. Tito pounds on Okada some then Okada is splashed in the corner and whipped into a Tito lariat. Tito slingshot sentons Okada and snap suplexes him for 2. Tito and Okada trade forearms and Jonah reverse bearhugs Okada.

Jonah slams Okada after forearms and misses a splash. Okada basement dropkicks him then Tana flying forearms Tito. Tana 2nd rope flipping sentons Tito then Tito is double suplexed. Tito enzugiri's Tana and does a great blue thunder. Jonah headbutts Okada then takes a dropkick. Tana saves Okada with a slingblade on Tito. Tana top rope frogsplashes Tito and wins it.

This was short and simple with the faces getting pounded on and making their comeback to win. Nothing wrong with this, but far from what it could have been.

G1 Climax 32 Block D Match - YOSHI-HASHI vs El Phantasmo

They shoulde battle early. ELP eye pokes him and shoulders him then Yoshi running blockbusters him. Yoshi goes outside then ELP runs up the buckles and crossbodies him off the top. ELP then 2nd rope moonsaults him outside. ELP climbs up the ropes for a springboard swanton but Yoshi gets his knees up. Yoshi forearms him in the corner then back body drops him. EP then hits a nice dropkick.

ELP hits a chop + forearm combo in the corner then springboard twisting crossbodies him. ELP then asai moonsaults him for 2. Yoshi hits some chops and a neckbreaker. Yoshi then chops him and he goes over the top. Yoshi then tope con hilos him and basement dropkicks him inside. Yoshi takes slaps and an enzugiri but comes back with a lariat. They trade forearms and ELP slams him.

ELP misses a superkick and is dragon suplexed. ELP then hits a superkick on him and hits a spinning reverse fireman's carry neckbreaker. ELP top rope crossbodies him for 2. Yoshi hits a lariat and a big superkick then lariats him again. Yoshi fisherman busters him for 2. Yoshi hits a canadian destroyer and a half-nelson pumphandle driver and wins it.

Don't get me wrong, this didn't have a lot of story except for Yoshi being the underdog and it was mostly an all-action match, but it was good. They didn't overdo it, Yoshi did a good here and they really got the pace right. Yoshi's kind of an acquired taste as he's not over the top amazing, but the more you watch him, the more you see that he does get what he is doing.

G1 Climax 32 Block A Match - Toru Yano vs Lance Archer

This was total comedy garbage with people getting taped to rails, young boys getting involved, the ref purposely doing long counts, turnbuckle pads being removed and other stupid stuff. Lance won as expected.

G1 Climax 32 Block C Match - Zack Sabre Jr. vs Hirooki Goto

They trade shoulders early and Goto knocks him over. Goto reverses a hiptoss and hiptosses him. Zack sleepers him while tied up in the ropes. They go outside and Goto is thrown into the rails then Zack kicks the rails into his arm. Zack hits some euro uppercuts, works on the arm more and arm whips him down. Zack facekicks him then Goto lariats him. Goto spinning heel kicks him in the corner then bulldogs him. They trade strikes and Goto drops him with a forearm.

Goto drops him with more forearms then Zack cobra twists him. Zack germans and facekicks him then Goto hits a reverse GTR. Goto dragon suplexes him. Zack hits slaps then gets headbutted. Zack goes for a guillotine but Goto flips him into a neckbreaker over the knee. Zack PK's him then takes a big lariat. Zack rolls him into an armbar and Goto ropebreaks.

Goto elbow slices him with the arm Zack has been working on off a bridge in the corner. Goto chest kicks him then firemans carries him into an elbow slice on the injured arm again. Zack triangles him and rolls it into an armbar to win.

They were aggressive but maybe too aggressive as the selling was questionable at times. It was also a Zack match where it often becomes a submission exhibition more than anything else at times. It was decent to good to a degree, but it could have been better.

G1 Climax 32 Block B Match - Jay White vs Great O'Khan

Khan goes after him and Jay stalls outside. Jay yells at him and is taken down and rolled on the mat. Jay and the ref argue, Khan turns his back over and Jay takes a cheapshot before being shouldered down. Khan then pump kicks him for 2. Khan sits on his head in the corner then drives him into the rails. Gedo grabs Khan's legs and Jay uses it to work on Khan's knee on the apron. Jay pulls on Khan's legs as it is wrapped up in the ropes. Jay then bangs Khan's leg off the post and is kick pushed through the rail gate out of ringside.

Jay comes in and neckbreakers him for 2. Jay hits chops and is thrown by the shoulder. Khan bangs Jay's head off the buckles reverse chokeslams on the top buckle. Khan then hits Karelin's lift for 2. Jay dragon screws him through the ropes then twisting brainbusters him. Jay pulls him up by the hair then Jay flatliners him. Jay then does a nice german on him. Jay uranage's him for 2. Khan comes back with a belly to belly suplex. Jay then rolls him into a reverse figure four then hits chops. Khan uppercut thrusts him then hits mongolian chops.

Khan pump kicks him and Jay sleeper suplexes him. Jay goes for a blade runner and the two claw each other. Khan sheepkillers him and then Khan hits a nice straight punch. Khan gets a claw on, Jay bladerunners him while in it, and wins it.

The body part work was a waste of time and Jay did his usual shenaningans that didn't add much. The counters and reversals near the end were pretty creative though and the finish stretch being good helped this seem a little better than it was.

G1 Climax 32 Block D Match - Shingo Takagi vs Will Opseray

Shingo shoulders him over early, Will kips up then is shouldered again. Will armdrags him and they counter each other. Shingo then hiptosses him and suplexes him. Shingo back elbows Will then Will does a cool headflip counter out of his ddt. Will then plancha's him outside and backbreakers him inside. Will drops him with a forearm. Shingo then hits a lariat and punch combo.

Shingo back body drops him then lariats him over the top to the floor. Shingo corner lariats and forearms him then twisting neckbreakers him. Will counters a suplex with a cutter then springboard forearms him for 2. Shingo puts his knees up for Will's standing moonsault then shingo elbow flurries him. They do more counters and Will handspring back enzugiri's him. Shingo no sells it then is superkicked in the same sequence.

Shingo sits up top and takes an enzugiri. Will then top rope spanish flies him for 2. Will 450's him for 2. Will superkicks him in the back of the head then Shingo cranks his arm at 15 minutes. They trade forearms and Will goes for the os cutter but is cuttered. Shingo then pop-up death valley drivers him and hits a big lariat for 2. Will hits his own made in japan on Shingo. Will then hits an os cutter for 2. Will punches Shingo then hits superkicks. Will counters his surprise poisonrana and hidden blades him. Will hits kicks and a spinning high kick out of the corner. Will standing spanish flies him and Shingo lariats him off a hidden blade attempt. Shingo hits a dragon suplex and lariats him for 2.

Shingo sliding forearms him then hits a last of the dragon and wins it.

It went on too long and they kicked out of too much. It was a moves match without too much of a story. They did do a lot of cool counters and sequences, but while it might be flashy, it's not super smart work.

Overall thoughts: One awful comedy match and two somewhat good but flawed matches here.
