All Japan Pro Wrestling 4/23/2022 Champion Carnival 2022 Day 6

All Japan Pro Wrestling 4/23/2022 Champion Carnival 2022 Day 6

They have 135 fans (so they say) here for this one in 2AW's dojo. Thats a horrible number for a show that is above a normal AJPW show.

I reviewed the four Champion Carnival matches here.

Champion Carnival 2022 Block B - Yuma Aoyagi vs Kuma Arashi

Kuma clean breaks early. They shoulder battle which Kuma wins. Kuma sentons him and Yuma tries some forearms but ultimately gets slammed. Kuma sentons him again and Yuma gut punches him to no avail. Kuma backbreakers him then puts his butt in his face in the corner. Yuma takes another backbreaker then Kuma stands on his gut.

Yuma hits a dropkick after missing one then running forearms him for 2. Kuma racks him and samoan drops him. Kuma then steps on his gut again and hits a 2nd rope senton for 2. Kuma misses a corner charge and is german suplexed then Yuma dropkicks him. Kuma suplexes him which Yuma no sells then they trade forearms. Kuma then lariats him for 2.

Yuma evades his sit out dominator and rolls him up then Kuma hits a nice crossbody for 2. Yuma then crucifixes him out of nowhere and wins it.

This really wasn't anything special though it's not like they put on a bad match or didn't try.

Champion Carnival 2022 Block A - Jake Lee vs Ryuki Honda

Honda jumps him before the bell and hits forearms. Lee then running facekicks him and is thrown down. Honda throws him outside then throws him into the post. Lee chest kicks him out there. They go back in and Honda back elbows him.

Honda forearms him and Lee tells him to do it again. Lee then gives him a hard kick to the chest and Honda back body drops him. Honda pulls on his face and headlocks him around the middle rope. Honda then misses a corner charge and gets rolled up.

Lee kicks his back then Honda hits a messy slam and stomps his face. Honda forearm flurries him against the buckle then Lee tells him to hit more forearms. Lee lets him get some in then drops him with one. Lee hits some knees on him and starts laughing wildly. Lee then hits a running knee for 2.

Honda spears him then hits a big lariat for a close 2. Lee stops Honda's single arm powerbomb then does a double reverse armbar which Honda taps out to.

I thought Lee could have done a little more for Honda here but this was fine, just not great or anything.

Champion Carnival 2022 Block A - Shigehiro Irie vs T-Hawk

Irie shoulders him down early then Hawk randomly runs out of the ring and goes into the first row. T gets back in and chops him and they work the side headlock more. T hits some chops and then punches in the corner. T charges at him and Irie uses the ropes to get up and butt drop him. Irie then cannonballs him off the apron outside.

Irie drops him with a forearm then does his rebound splash off the ropes on T. T running knees him and Irie rolls out. T then bangs Irie's arm on the post. T works his arm on the outside then ties up his knee and punches it on the inside. T armdrags him into a fujiwara armbar.

Irie comes back with a powerslam then black hole slams him for 2. Irie piledrives him then takes a reverse body slam. Irie then flying headbutts him. Irie sits up top and is chopped down to the floor. T then superplexes him. They trade forearms for chops and Irie headbutts his arm and chest. T then punches him. Irie cannonballs him against the ropes then T rolls him up for 2. T then hits splash mountain for 2.

They fight on their knees and Irie headbutts him in the chest. Irie slaps him and T punches him and drops him. Irie gets on his back for a choke then T drops him back. Irie hits a falcon arrow into a chicken wing then T knees him. Irie hits some headbutts and takes punches then he last ride powerbombs him. Irie the running cannonballs him and they try pinfalls as the 30 minute time limit expires.

This didn't need to go 30 minutes. There was just no real story to the match and there was nothing particularly special about it. Add in a crowd that couldn't cheer and this was just not going to be great.

Champion Carnival 2022 Block B - Kento Miyahara vs Yoshitatsu

They shoulder battle early and Yoshi knocks him down then back kicks him. Kento throws him outside and headbutts him. Kento tries to get a move in on the stage but Yoshi ends up ddt'ing him there. They go back in and Yoshi hits some kicks to his chest and they trade forearms. Yoshi then kicks him down and corner stomps him.

Yoshi neckbreakers him then mocks his move outside where he headlocks him against the pose and sticks his tongue out. Yoshi then pulls his legs to crotch him on the post. Kento comes back with dropkicks to the knee and head. Kento then northern lights suplexes him for 2. Kenot hits a jumping knee in the corner then Yoshi takes him to the other corner for a face kick.

Yoshi facewashes him. They trade forearms then Yoshi suplexes him. They trade forearms then Yoshi hits a tornado ddt for 2. Kento pump kicks him as he chanrges then pumping knees him in the back of the head. Kento then hits a pump knee to the face for 2. Yoshi high kicks him then flatliner's him into a koji clutch.

Yoshi gets some moves blocked then Kento pumping knees him. Kento then straightjacket suplexes him and wins it.

This was kind of fun. Yoshi doing some of his moves was fun and he put up a good fight before losing.

Overall thoughts: Not a great night at the CC as expected but the main was fun.
