All Japan Pro Wrestling 4/10/2022 - Champion Carnival 2022 Day 2

All Japan Pro Wrestling 4/10/2022 - Champion Carnival 2022 Day 2

I saw 4 of the 7 matches here.

Hideki Sekine & Shotaro Ashino vs Hokuto Omori & Jake Lee

I lost my original review for this, but it wasn't anything special. Shrek doesn't really move like a pro wrestler and is still kind of learning some of the concepts. He had a nice hulk up section though. They only had about 10 minutes and there wasn't a lot to this.

Champion Carnival 2022 Block A - Shuji Ishikawa vs T-Hawk

T jumps him after he enters. Shuji doesn't take off his shirt so T takes it off of him and whips him with it. Shuji then comes back with a slam and is dropkicked in the leg. They go outside and T works the leg more and chops him. T works the leg inside then Shuji comes back with a lariat and a 2nd rope double stomp.

T hits another dropkick to the leg then backdrops Shuji on his powerbomb attempt. T suplexes him for 2 then Shuji hits a lariat. Shuji backdrops him and takes more dropkicks to the knee. Shuji then comes back with a sitout driver that isn't sold. T uppercuts him to end the sequence.

T splash mountains him for 2 then Shuji hits a Thesz press and steals the win.

This wasn't too good. T did some legwork that didn't play a big role in this and then the finish was totally out of nowhere. They also only had about 10 minutes which limited what they could do.

Champion Carnival 2022 Block B - Takuya Nomura vs Yuma Aoyagi

They do a side headlock takeover early and Nomura slaps him against the ropes. Yuma clean breaks for him then Nomura back kicks him. Nomura then mounts and forearm flurries him. Nomura then headscissors him and bangs his head off the mat with his legs. Nomura starts slapping him on the head then takes a hard forearm for it. Yuma then starts slapping Nomura's back and butt and they trade forearm flurries on the mat.

Yuma puts him in a high crab but he ropebreaks. He slaps Nomura around more then forearms him. They trade more forearms and Nomura dropkicks him. Nomura hits a forearm flurry in the corner and suplexes him for 2. Nomura gets his PK blocked and they trade forearms. Nomura hits some body kicks then takes a face kick and a spin kick to the head. Yuma then hits a stiff release german and grounded guillotines him.

Nomura hits a stiff lariat and a PK. Nomura hits a stiff slap then germans him for 2. Nomura then wins it with a dragon suplex.

This was a good one. Nomura and Yuma got scrappy with each other and brought some hate. They matched up well together and Nomura got more energy and emotion out of Yuma than we usually see.

Champion Carnival 2022 Block B - Suwama vs Kento Miyahara

They stall and lock up then evade each others strikes early. Kento then forearms and facekicks him. They go outside and Kento headbutts him

They goof around outside and Kento facekicks him on the inside. Suwama comes back with a flying shoulder then Suwama gets some shots on him outside. Suwama goes for the ring bell but is talked out of it. Kento fights back with forearms then is chopped and chopblocked.

Suwama takes him down then leg locks him but it is quickly broken up. Suwama works the leg and single leg crabs him. Suwama then suplexes him for 2 then does a grounded toehold. Suwama corner lariats him then belly to belly suplexes him. Kento hits some dropkicks on him. He gets sleepered on the apron and Kento pump kicks him there. Kento then piledrivers him on the apron.

Kento pumping knees him in the corner then Suwama comes back with a lariat. They tade forearms then Suwama spinning lariats him. They trade more forearms and Kento facekicks him. Kento pumping knees him in the back of the head then the face. Kento goes for a corner pumping knee but is powerbombed and lariated. Suwama then delay germans Kento and ankle locks him.

Kento escapes a powerbomb and hits a pumping knee. They trade forearms and Kento hits some headbutts before taking a bunch of chops then dropkicking Suwama. Kento hits more pumping knees for 2. Suwama lariats him for 2 then backdrops him for another 2. Suwama hits some smaller lariats then Kento hurricanrana's him for 2. Suwama then lariats him as the time limit expires.

I knew this was going 30 ahead of time and even if I didn't, you could tell by the stalling. I didn't expect it to be some great match and it wasn't. They did ankle lock work for a lot of this that ultimately went nowhere and the last part of it was mostly just endless lariats and pumping knees.

Overall thoughts: I really liked Nomura/Aoyagi but didn't care much for the rest. The main didn't seem like it would be great and it wasn't and the other 2 matches didn't deliver. It was just going to be a lesser show due to a smaller crowd in a smaller city.
