GCW Backyard Wrestling 7/4/2019
NOTE - I intended to do the full show about 2 years ago and I still might at some point, but until I do, here's what I saw of it:
Psycho Joe vs Lucky Pierre
Joe does Triple H water spitting impersonations to start. He spits the water then is handed a beer, but actually drinks it instead. I popped for that. Joe hits lariat early and Pierre does a big tope con giro to start. Pierre takes a water to the head and is thrown on a trampoline. Joe does a stunner but its on a trampoline, so how much does it really hurt? Joe then takes a suplex on another trampoline, but again, it's a trampoline. A fan boosts Pierre on top of a trailer and he hurricanrana's Joe.
Joe grabs a door and props it between chairs and Pierre get's DVD'd through it. Joe goes for a pin but the ref can't get there in time. Pierre does a sliced bread #2 off the side of the house and Pierre does a cool sell on it. They do a blockbuster into the pool. They go back into the ring and Pierre gets a spinning rock bottom. Pierre super hurricanrana's Joe onto a chair and then hits a flying elbow from the top for the win.
We are one match in and I have no idea how anyone is going to follow this when they did all kinds of big spots to start. This wasn't really any good nor did it look legit or anything, but ya know. That's how this thing goes.
Claude Marrow Jr. (Ruckus) vs Kid Suicide (Doughy Janela)
Janela comes out to a roman candle or sparkler entrance and gets sprayed with it. Janela drinks a beer on his way to the ring. Ruckus comes out smoking and the announcers ask for the blunt to be passed over their way. Ruckus gets thrown into the ropes and does his handspring back elbow flip move. Ruckus did a handspring backflip onto Doughy. Ruckus jumps on the trampoline and Doughy kicks him in air. Doughy does a double jump off the trampolines and flips onto Ruckus. Ruckus does some more handsprings and drops a leg on the standing Doughy. Ruckus' manager hits the ring and they hit the T-Gimmick on Doughy on chairs.
Ruckus tries to do his rolling suplex move onto a door but misses the door and Doughy takes it on the ropes. It looked good though. The Doughboy then gets DVD'd through a door. Ruckus does a moonsault from the top but takes a boot to the face instead. They have a dumb spot where Doughy goes outside for weapons and doesn't even bother to take a shot at the manager Robbie Styles who just T-Gimmick'd him. Ruckus takes a superkick and just slips and goes through the door on the chairs. Doughy then does a bad swanton onto Ruckus for the win
Not very good, but you knew that already. But having good matches or looking legit wasn't the point here anyway.
They have a cupcake cake out there for Dough's birthday and somebody takes it in the face. Doughy then throws one of the cupcackes at the house and it sticks.
El Shlako vs Luke Hadley
"I don't think Luke's coming out of the hedge. I think he's just going to be part of the shrubbery now" - The announcer |
"In case you are wondering how many times Luke Hadley has to shoot himself in the face to know something's pointed the wrong way, the answer is 3." - The announcer |
"Wait a minute. That's Shlak?" - The announcer |
Luke Hadley wins! |
I don't know who Luke is. He enzugiri's Shlak while he drinks his beer and then beaten up. Shlak hits him with two beers at the same time then suplexes him through a door. Shlako dunks Luke in the pool, hits a girl in the butt with a chair then hits Luke in the head with the chair. Luke then takes a nasty DVD through a chair and his ankle lands ugly. Luke then gets belly to belly'd through a bush. About 5 minutes later, Shlako lights elbow on fire and elbows Luke through a door.
Spyder Nate Webb comes to save Luke. They try to hit Shlak with a roman candle, but Luke puts it the wrong way and hits himself lol Then they get it right and start hitting Shlak and Webb with fireworks. They rip the mask off of Shlak. Hadley then hurricanrana's and pins Shlak even though Shlak is totally in the ropes.
I dunno what this was but watching Luke get his ass kicked was hilarious as were the announcers. That line about Hadley hitting himself in the face with fireworks was gold.
I'm honestly done with this show at this point, but I'm afraid something stupid will happen and I will miss it.
Tony Deppen vs Alex Zayne
The finish |
They flip around a little early and Zayne does some insane dive where he lands bad. They do some weird poisonrana sequence on a trampoline that looked bad. Deppen does a hurricanrana hanging off a tree. Deppen flips Zayne's neck on a chair. Zayne does a standing reverse 450? They fight on top of a trailer. Zaynes does an SSP off the trailer and gets hair with a chair on the way down for a bad landing. Not the finish though of course because these people are indy idiots and they rush through it, not letting people take in that crazy bump.
Zayne jumps on the trampoline then springboards to the middle rope for a moonsault on Deppen in a cool spot. They come back in, barely selling that and Deppen double stomps Zayne. Zayne does some weird double knee move on a standing Deppen that gets botched and he gets a 2 count with a driver. Zayne misses on a wild corkscrew 450. They fight on the apron and Deppen back topes him. Deppen does a flip dive on him then does a dive into a canadian destroyer. Of ourse this isn't the finish either lol The announcers even acknowledge that sentiment here.
They fight on the apron again and Deppen takes a backdrop on it. Zayne a does a 630? over the top rope driving Deppen through a door. Thankfully that ends it as that was an insane spot.
What do you say about this one? It was exactly what you expected this show to be. Some insane and cool looking spots without much selling or anything else. Obviously, if you are rating this on technical grounds, the rating wouldn't be very good. But if you are ever going to see a stunt show, it may be this.
The crowd hugged Zayne after:
Diablo vs Jordan Oliver
"He may be on the other side of the fence. We may not be able to get him back. You know the rules..if it goes over the fence the neighbor gets to keep it" - The announcer LOL |
"People calling for murder, calling for death...I'm just hoping for a clean victory" - Announcer | "Ya know, I'll take a murder." - Nick Gage |
Diablo gets jumped early by Oliver's buddies. Oliver's buddies take some nice bumps over the top as Diablo throws them. Diablo does a cool pop-up slam on Oliver. Diablo then dives on his opponent's buddies. Diablo does a 2nd rope moonsault. Oliver does a dive through the ropes that ends in a cutter. Oliver hits him with his junk on the outside. Diablo and one of Oliver's friends get on top of a shed. Diablo hits him with a brick to the head and the guy goes into a bush. Diablo and Oliver fight inside of a tool shed lol Gage calls it "alleged raping".
We go across the street to another house. Oliver goes inside it lol About 2 minutes later Oliver is on top of the roof, of course! Diablo press slams him off the roof! Oliver lands hard on his buddies. The camera's miss about 15 seconds of action and we get back in the ring with Diablo throwing a chair at Oliver's head. Oliver's friends get in and they launch Diablo off the top into a cutter. Diablo throws another chair at Oliver's head. They do a fake looking spot where Diablo triple samoan drops three people and the last two really clearly put themselves on the pile.
Oliver puts Diablo in a camel clutch and says he's going to make him humble, Iron Shiek style. Diablo tips over a trampoline on Oliver's lackeys...and almost some fans. Oliver then wins it with a 2nd rope moonsault fall-away slam through a board.
It's hard to criticize this one. The samoan drop spot was pretty ugly, but they actually played the 4v1 story well, Diablo looked like a beast here and they had some really creative spots. Again, obviously if you want something realistic without requiring people to stretch their imaginations, this isn't it, but I thought they did a pretty good job here. This really put over Diablo well and they did some cool spots.
