Big Japan Pro Wrestling 5/5/2022 - Big Japan Welcome Back
I do have access to BJW's niconico and I will get BJW Core one of these days, but there's just been so much wrestling that I haven't seen as much of it as I wanted to.
The crowd still can't cheer and it absolutely ruins these shows. I saw the top 5 matches here of the 9 total.
Nice crowd on hand |
Self Produced Items Weapons Bringing Death Match - Isami Kodaka & Ryuji Ito vs. Michio Kageyama & Yuki Ishikawa
We have a barbed wire board, some kind of padding wrapped in barbed wire, more barbed wire, a ladder and a kendo stick amongst other toys.
The fight starts before the bell rings. Kage hits a nice leg lariat on Ito then Ito takes a kick and dropkick sandwich. Kage grabs a nail brush and gets facebustered on it. Isami then scrapes it on his head.

Yuki comes back with a 2nd rope dropkick then Kage backdrops Ito on chairs. Kage puts the barbed wire padding on his shin but it won't stay on. He kicks Ito with it anyway then Isami gets in and hits his opponents with a ladder. Isami and Yuki climb the ladder then Isami crossbodies him from the top of it.
Ito and Kage trade punches and strikes then Kage superkicks him. Kage then falcon arrows him on chairs for 2 and buzzsaw kicks him. Ito then northern lights suplexes Kage and throws a chair at him before hitting a shining wizard. Isami then climbs the ladder and double knees Kage off of it then Ito barbed wire frogsplashes Kage for the win.
This really wasn't bad at all as far as hardcore stuff goes. They didn't overdo it too much and they didn't no sell. Kage's a good babyface punching bag and the rest of the guys were mobile enough to make it entertaining. They also had a few big spots here and it ended up being one of the better deathmatch efforts I have seen lately from BJW.
BJW Tag Team Title Match - Okami (Daichi Hashimoto & Hideyoshi Kamitani) (c) vs. Astronauts (Fuminori Abe & Takuya Nomura)
Hash and Nomura mat wrestle early and Hash chinbreakers him. Abe headlocks Kami and Kami backdrops him while in it but Abe holds on. Kami hits a hard slam on him then Hash gets in and knee drops him. Hash hits some stiff shots on him then Kami bullies around Abe.

Hash then hits a shining wizard to the front and back on Abe then Abe rolls him up out of nowhere for the win.
This was a strong match with good heavies vs juniors storyline. They really worked this well with the juniors having to overcome the odds and getting the pin out of nowhere to win it. This was action packed with lots of stiff shots and one of the better matches of the year so far. Definitely a MOTYC and worth a look.
BJW Junior Heavyweight Title Match - Kota Sekifuda (c) vs. Kosuke Sato
They
do some chain wrestling to start then have a stand off. Kota back
elbows him then Sato hits a nice dropkick. They trade strikes then Sato

weird twist on Sato where he lands on his knee. Kota then hiptosses him

Sato headbutts him then then hit more strikes. Sato then michinoku
drivers him. Sato then gets stuck on the 2nd rope and Kota codebreakers
him. Sato gets his knees up on a Kota frogsplash then Sato grounded

Sato slap flurries him then hits a ki krusher
for 2. Kota recovers and stf's him. Kota turns it into a cobra clutch
and a cobra clutch suplex for 2. Kota then top rope frog splashes him
for the win.
I liked this one. The finishing stretch wasn't great
and they could have sold a little better, but these two do juniors
wrestling well. They keep it fast paced, they do quick strikes and they
do little bits of flying too without overdoing it. I'd rather watch
these guys everyday then sit through another NJPW juniors match.
BJW Death Match Heavyweight Title Scaffold & Alpha Death Match - Yuko Miyamoto (c) vs. Drew Parker
They start on top of the scaffold then Yuko facebusters him onto it. Drew's body hangs from it and Yuko surfboards him from it. Yuko then bangs his head into the scaffold while under it. Drew puts a chair in his crotch then chairs it. Drew then throws darts at his back and pulls them out.
The fight over a bat with gusset plates on it and Yuka pushes it into his head then hits him in the arm with it. Drew immediately starts bleeding from the arm then takes a dangerous bat shot on the upper chest. Drew has blood all over him and trades forearms with Yuko. Drew then dropkicks him off the 2nd rope and plancha's him.
Drew hip attacks him in the corner then twisting brainbusters him. Yuko kick combos him then hits a big lariat. He follows it up with a powerbomb on chairs for 2 and then lands hard on chairs on a missed corkscrew moonsault. Drew then sunset bombs him from the top onto chairs. Drew misses a top rope senton onto chairs then meteora's him for 2. Yuko comes back and dropkicks a table into him.
They go up on top of the scaffold and fight. Yuko slams him on it then moonsault double knees him. Yuko then just kind of casually powerbombs him off the scaffold onto tables. Yuko then moonsaults him off the scaffold and hits a sit out driver for 2. Yuko meteoras him for another 2. Yuko gets on top of the scaffold and Drew tries to shake him off of it.
They fight up on top of the scaffold again and Drew slams him off of it. Drew then swantons him off the scaffold and wins it.
I wasn't a big fan of this. They didn't bring a lot to the table besides the scaffold stuff and Drew really should have been done after getting powerbombed off of it through tables. The pace was also slower than it should have been.
BJW World Strong Heavyweight Title Match - Yuji Okabayashi (c) vs. Daisuke Sekimoto
They lock up to start and test strength. They trade chops then shoulder battle which Oka wins. Sek crossbodies him off the 2nd rope but is caught and slammed. Oka tries to lariat him over the top but is hiptossed over the ropes and then Sek plancha's him. Oka goes for a hiptoss when they are back inside and Sek rolls it into a boston crab and STF.

Oka 2nd rope suplexes him but Sek no sells it. Sek then enzugiri's him and hits a northern lights bomb for 1 as Oka powers up. Oka slap flurries him and hits a big lariat for 2. They both no sell each others germans then collide with lariats. Oka then hits a big lariat for 2. Sek gets his knees up on an Oka top rope splash.
Sek hits a big lariat for 2 then deadlift german suplexes him for another 2. They trade lariats then Sek forearm flurries him and headbutts him. They trade forearms then Oka slap flurries him. Oka then hits a big lariat for 2 and powerbombs him for a close 2. Oka then torture racks him and wins it.
It wasn't boring and they did fill the time well. They did way too much here though and openly no sold for a while during it and I wasn't a big fan of that. The finish was really out of nowhere here as well.
Overall thoughts: The tag title match was a MOTYC match, the heavyweight match had positives and negatives, I kind of liked the hardcore tag match but I did not like the scaffold match. It was a good effort though for BJW with them putting on the best possible matches they could and making the big show feel special.
