AEW Rampage 5/13/2022
Last week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2022/05/aew-rampage-562022.html
Like last week, this aired at 5:30PM EST and is likely going to do an awful rating. The card for this also looks way worse.
Death Triangle (PAC, Penta Oscuro & Rey Fenix) (w/Alex Abrahantes) vs. AFO (Marq Quen, The Blade & The Butcher) (w/The Bunny)
No entrances for this.
Penta does his taunt to Blade to start then Penta dropkicks Blade in the butt from the top. Butcher pulls out Pac and lariats him against the apron, then backdrops him on it. Jericho names Butcher and Blade the Sports Entertainers of the week. Pac top rope dropkicks Butcher.
Quen and Fenix get in and Quen headscissors him, then does some weird thing into an enzugiri. Quen pops himself up into a dropkick on Fenix. Fenix gets some offense then does a double jump tornillo armdrag into a footstomp. Fenix goes for a tiger feint but is stopped and dropkicked hard off the apron into the rails.
We go to PiP break and return. Fenix takes a sideslam + legdrop combo then Quen 450's Fenix. Quen holds onto Blade's hand and runs up the ropes and tope con hilos Pac and Fenix. Fenix then takes a Butcher lariat for 2. Fenix comes back with a roll into a hurricanrana on Blade then tiger feints into a hook kick. Kyle O'Reilly is shown watching in the stands.
Penta gets in and beats up on the heels and rolls with Quen into a ddt on Butcher. Pac gets in and pop-up then germans Quen. Pac rebound germans Quen. Quen takes a double foot stomp + package piledriver combo. Fenix and Penta dive to the outside then Pac hits his black arrow corkscrew ssp to win it on Quen.
I thought it was fine. The faces got beat up for a while then made the big come back with some flying moves.
The lights go out after and the House of Black arrives. The lights then go back out and HoB disappears without doing anything. If they learned how to use this teleport trick in matches, they would never lose.
Shawn Sears vs Bear Boulder
Spears goes for his "10" taunt and gets picked up. Bear power slams him soon after. Spears tries corner punches but ends up getting avalanche'd. Spears catches Bear in the corner and death valley drivers him to win it.
I can't stand Spears and the Bears deserve better than jobbing for him.
Spears chairs Bear after then calls out Wardlow.
Tony Nese and Mark Sterling are interviewed. Sterling says he isn't facing Hook and Danhausen at the Buy-In at Double or Nothing. Tony says it is okay because he beat Danhausen easy. He said he can beat the two of them by himself and tells Mark to bet $10,000 on them winning.
Owen Hart Tournament Quarterfinal - Riho vs Ruby Soho
Ruby wristlocks her. Riho rolls through and reverses it then Ruby flips off the ropes to get out. Riho headscissors her then rolls her into a double stomp. Ruby uses the ropes and grabs Riho's head with her feet then pushes her into the buckle. Riho single leg crabs her then bridges back but Ruby hits the ropes.
We go to PiP break and return to Riho hitting a nothern lights suplex for 2. Riho hit a stiff dragon suplex during the break. They fight up on the top rope and Riho top rope crossbodies her but Ruby rolls through for 2. Riho crucifix bombs her for 2 then Ruby saito suplexes her for 2. Ruby then short superkicks her in the face. Ruby then hits a blade runner and wins it.
The break cut through a lot of this. There was some stiffness here on the suplexes.
The Gunn Club and The Acclaimed are in the back and say they are a faction now. Billy says they need hand gestures and Austin wants to do the suck it gesture, but Billy says no. Bowens then suggests the scissors thing with sound effects. They then discuss catchphrases. Austin wants to "we've got two words for ya" then Max suggests "Yo, Listen".
Billy says he has a match for them on Elevation. Max spits water at him and everyone cheers. This was meant to be a goofy segment and achieved that goal.
Tony Schiavone comes out and brings out The Baddies. Jade tells Tony to "cut the sh!t" and tells the cameramen to film the baddie section. Tony Schiavone said Shida got injured and can't compete in the Owen Hart Tournament against Red Velvet. Jade says that is good news. She then asked what happened to Mark Sterling but said nobody cares. She then has him talk and Mark says Red Velvet should win via forfeit. Tony said that's not happening and Shida's replacement will be Kris Statlander, who is Red's former friend. Kris is an okay sub since she wasn't in this at all.
Sky/Lambert/Page and Kazarian do a split screen promo. Page doesn't get why Sky gave him a title shot. Sky says because he gave him his word. Kazarian said Page and Lambert weren't asked. Kazarian the match is between him and Sky. Lambert and Page mock that and Sky tells them to take the night off. Sky says he is the face of TNT and says to get used to it.
TNT Title - Scorpio Sky (c) vs Frankie Kazarian
Sky uses the ropes to flip out of a wristlock then Kaz does the same. Kaz works a key lock then they run into each other and both go down. Sammy Guevarra and Tay Conti are shown watching.
Kaz fisherman suplexes him for 2 then is thrown out. Sky then tope con hilo's him. We go to PiP break and return. Sky is legdropped over the 2nd rope then Kaz slingshots into a roll-up on him. Kaz hits a big lariat. Sky goes for something and is rolled-up for 2 then slammed. Kaz then springboard legdrops him for 2.
Sky is on the apron holding the ropes, Kaz slingshots him in and Sky jumps real high for it to take a high angle cutter. Kaz chickenwings him then Dan Lambert gets on the apron. Page then slips in, nails Kaz with the title but it's only for 2. Sky TKO's him and then wins it.
The title belt shot should have been the finish. I can't really understand why that wasn't it. I did like the storyline here though of Sky getting unwanted help against a good friend. I thought it was an okay match but the storyline is what made this. I'd like to see AEW do more stuff like this.
Sky gets up and figures out what happens. He yells at Page and Lambert. Page admits it and says he did fit for the team. He asked what team Sky was on. Sky then nailed Kaz with the belt and they hugged, so I guess it was a swerve all long. Either way, it works.
Dan Lambert then calls out Sammy Guevarra who comes in with a chair. This part I didn't really understand though since both are heels or tweeners and Sammy chasing him off is a face thing.
Overall thoughts: I thought this was fine and I didn't have any real problems with it. The opener was fine and the main event told a good story.
