AAA 4/30/2022 Triplemania XXX: Monterrey

I skipped the intergender stuff.

Ruleta de la Muerte 1st Round - Ultimo Dragon vs Pentagon Jr.

Penta does his poe right in Drag's face, then Drag spin kicks him. Drag handstand twisting headscissors him and they trade armdrags before doing a face off. Penta goes for the mask and Drag headscissors him. They go outside and Drag is superkicked on the floor. Penta comes off top and is dropkicked.

Drag hits his kick combo then Penta rolls him up for 2. Drag crossbodies him off the top onto the ramp. Drag does a panama sunrise out of nowhere. Drag hits his backflip cutter then wins it.

It wasn't a classic, but Ultimo moved well and it was an alright opener.

Ruleta de la Muerte 1st Round - Villano IV vs L.A. Park

They had a cool intro video for the history of their carers. V4 had a neat Pink Panther remix theme. V4 waited for him on the ramp and they fought out there. Park got ddt'd on the ramp then V4 banged his head off the buckles in the ring. V4 tried to rip the mask off. He chaired him on the outside then hit some headbutts. They went into the crowd.

Park got busted open and V4 pounded on the cut. V4 accidentally hit the ref and then Park fired up. Park chaired him and V4 went on the rails outside then Park ripped his mask. Park slammed V4 through a wooden board. V4 used a chiar on Park then hit Park's leg with it. V4 lowblows Park then Park gave him one back for 2. They fought on their knees. Park went up top and got crotched then V4 senton'd him for 2. Park then got a roll-up out of nowhere to win.

This went on forever. It was slow and they did some not so great brawling. I didn't think it was bad, just it went on a really long time at a slow pace.

Johnny Caballero & Taurus vs Dragon Lee & Dralistico vs Jack Cartwheel & Laredo Kid

Johnny Caballero is John Morrison. He wore a cowboy outfit and had some kind of water gun. Johnny sprayed Kid with it the water early. Kid and Lee traded chops and forearms. Jack was on the mat and flipped himself backwards for a headscissors on Dralistico. Johnny had him on his shoulders and flipped backwards with a samoan drop. He then did a nice clothesline.

Everyone fought outside. Kid got held up in a wheelbarrow german with Johnny springboard kicking him. Dralistico headscissored Taurus then hit a corkscrew kick on him. Dral then springboard hurricanrana'd him. Kid springboard dropkicked Dral then Johnny did a weird backroll on him into a spinning splash mountain. Jack did a one-armed flagpole plant off the apron and legswept Johnny. Jack moonsaulted Lee but got caught in a tombstone position and eventually took a neckbreaker over the knee.

Taurus hit a revrse slingblade then a crucifix bomb on Lee. He then po-up samoan dropped him. Dral and Lee did an indian deathlock into a dropkick then did a leapfrog on Jack and dropkicked him. Dral and Lee then did tope con hilo's on the outside. Kid did a nice springboard tornillo then Johnny did a neat side tornillo off the top to the floor.

Kid hit Johnny with a michinoku driver. He and Taurus messed up a top rope spot then Taurus sit out drivered him. Lee hit a sit out powerbomb on Taurus then Jack did a standing spanish fly on Lee. Jack missed a running SSP then took a springboard into a canadian destroyer. Lee jumped over the top rope to hurricanrana Taurus off the apron then Jack did a flying space tiger drop to Lee on the outside. Dral did a springboard ssp. Johnny accidentally sprayed the ref with water then Kid hit him with the water gun. Johnny then low blowed him and won it.

As you would expect, it was a total spotfest. There wasn't much in the way of anything except for cool moves. It still had less drives than I expected though.

Ruleta de la Muerte 1st Round - Blue Demon Jr. vs Rayo de Jalisco Jr.

They hit some chops and punches early then Demon ripped up Rayo's mask. Demon got a cookie sheet and hit Rayo with it. Demon then punched him with a chain and busted him open. Demon then choked him with a chain and bit his head. Rayo got his head banged off the sheet then Rayo hit him with the sheet. Demon then stretched Rayo around the ring post.

Rayo back body dropped Demon then hit a headbutt flurry for 2. They both low blowed each other and Rayo put Demon in an abdominal stretch. Demon went up top and was thrown down. Cien Caras came out with a cane with Mascara Ano 2000 then Nuevo Generacion Dinamias came out and attacked Rayo. Rayo got a guitar from one of them and nailed Demon with it to win it.

After the match, the Dinamitas beat up on Rayo and Cien used his cane on Rayo. Demon got put on a stretcher after. The Dinamitas also got a couple of shots in on Demon while he was on the stretcher for good measure.

It was another slower hardcore match. I thought it was fine for what it was, but it wasn't much of anything except some weapons shots and basic strikes. Both guys are old though and get a pass. I thought the match idea was pretty cool. Both guys are legends and Blue Demon Sr. took Rayo Sr.'s mask so there was some history to it which they mentioned. I also liked the Dinamita's coming out as Rayo took Cien's mask and Rayo was a career long rival with them.

Ruleta de la Muerte 1st Round - Canek vs Psycho Clown

They started off slow and Clown hit some splashes. Canek back body dropped him then took a dropkick and rolled out. Clown tried to tope him but Canek side stepped him and he went into the rail. Doctors checked on Clown but Canek slammed his head off the post. Canek ripped his mask up then hit some punches to the head.

Canek chaired him in the head and busted him open. Canek then lariated him over the rail outside. Clown was then backdropped over the rails onto some of the seats. Canek then posed in the ring and suplexed him.

Canek armdragged him into a double reverse armbar. Clown made a comeback and basement dropkicked Canek. Clown tope'd him and got some of it but also went into the rail again. He was fine this time though. Clown hit him with a cookie sheet then ripped at his mask. Clown chaired him then Clown speared him into a wooden board for 2.

Canek slammed Clown down off the top. Dr. Wagner Jr. and his family came out. Wagner hit Clown with a bat then Canek dropped the elbow on Clown and won it.

I thought it was pretty decent. Canek wasn't bad for being so old and it was cool that they tied in Wagner losing his mask to Clown years ago. It was mostly just a slower hardcore match but Clown did some good selling to put it over and Canek held up his end.

After the match, Wagner posed then Clown tried to take a shot at him but Andrade El Idolo joined up with Wagner. He attacked Clown and pulled his mask off.

The Young Bucks vs El Hijo del Vikingo and Fenix

Fenix and Vikingo arrived in a cool three wheel car. Konnan is with the Bucks. Vikingo did a slingshot 2nd rope hurricanrana on a Buck then jumped off the post onto a rope to dropkick a Buck. Matt took a double dropkick to the outside and the Bucks walked to the back. Fenix and Vik ran to them and took superkicks. Vik was on Matt's knee and Nick flipping neckbreakered him on the knee. Vik took a bulldog/basement dropkick combo. Fenix did his springboard spin kick move to Matt theen did a fip on the ropes into a springboard armdrag. Konnan threw a drink at Fenix and was kicked out.

The Bucks ran after Konnan then ran into superkicks on the ramp. Vik walked the top rope and did a corkscrew moonsault onto the Bucks then Fenix did the same into a tornillo. Fenix hit a top rope splash then Vik did a 450. Vik did a tornillo into an armdrag off the top. Fenix then rolled into a cutter on a Buck outside. Vik then did an SSP off the top to the floor.

Vik took a buckle bomb/enzugiri combo then took double superkicks. Vik got put on Fenix's shoulders then a Buck popped the other up into a kick, which then poisonrana'd Fenix. The Bucks put both men in sharpshooters. Fenix got backdropped but hurricanrana'd a Buck on the the drop back.  Fenix walked the top rope into a kick on a Buck then Vik did a 630 off the inside second rope to a Buck on the ramp. Fenix hit a spinning release muscle buster on a Buck for 2.

The Bucks hit low blows then mocked Penta and did a double stomp into a package piledriver. The Bucks hit a Meltzer driver. The ref messed up the count but the Bucks won it off that. The Bucks tried to cover for it and had the ref count multiple times.

This was the usual Bucks spotfest. Just a bunch of flippy moves without much else going on.

Overall thoughts: I liked what I saw here. The legends matches were better than I expected and the announcers were a lot better than usual. The stadium looked great and they played up the histories well of people in the tournament.
