AEW Dynamite 3/16/2022
Last week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2022/03/aew-dynamite-392022.html
AEW used a smaller ring for this show which should be noted.
Adam Page and Jurassic Express vs Red Dragon and Adam Cole
Cole and JB start it off. Then Lucha gets in and takes control. He gets swept off the apron and falls down. Kyle hits some strikes on Lucha. Lucha makes a comeback with kicks and a double lariat then Page gets in cleans house. Page hits a fallaway slam then plancha's two other opponents then suicides the same opponents after lariating Fish over the top. Page pop-up sit-down powerbombs Fish then JB tope con hilos all opponents outside. The three faces then all get on/near the post and do moonsaults off it.
Fish puts JB over his knee then Kyle drops a knee on JB from the 2nd rope and we go to PiP break. JB hits a lariat on Kyle as we return and Lucha double shoulderd Red Dragon. Lucha germans Kyle and chokeslams him, then chokeslams Fish on Kyle. He then moonsaults on both. JB comes off the top and takes a superkick by Cole. Cole and Page butt heads and trade shots then Cole gets a samurai driver. JB comes off of Kyle's back for a ddt then Page flips Cole with a lariat. Red Dragon are on the shoulders of Page and Lucha then JB walks up the buckles and doomsday devices both. Cole hits the boom knee to the back of JB's head and wins it.
Trios usually work well in AEW as they can hit the big spots and don't have to worry about selling much as someone else can get in. This worked okay and I liked it.
Keith Lee, Starks and Hobbs were interviewed. Starks said Hobbs got beat up for showing up on Rampage when they told him not to. Starks said if he shows up again, the same thing happens. Lee laughed it off as he said he knocked out Starks like a b*tch.
Jon Moxley and Bryan Danielson vs Wheeler Yuta and Chuck Taylor
Yuta gets beat up for a bit to start. Yuta flips out of a wristlock then Chuck gets in and plancha's Mox. Chuck rolls Bryan into a single leg crab then Mox hits a hard face kick on Chuck. Chuck is on the apron and gets his neck pulled against the ropes then he falls off. Mox and Chuck trade shots. Mox then superplexes him and puts him in an A-T Lock. Chuck got a piledriver during the break then Yuta came in and hit a nice dropkick. Mox lariats him and Yuta germans him. Yuta gets held up then Bryan lariats him.
Mox bites Yuta on the outside and ddt's him.Yuta fights off Mox and Bryan 1v2 until he takes a german. Bryan then capture backdrops him for 2. Mox then lays on Yuta's back and wins it.
This was far more even than it should have been and was long. It seemed like it was designed to get Yuta over. I personally don't see it with Yuta as he's small and has little personality. Regal came down after. Yuta going out with his friends then they got him to go back in the ring. He offered to shake Regal's hand and Regal slapped him. Regal talked to him but I think they messed up the mic work and we missed most of it.
FTR is interviewed after about firing Tully. They said Tully was checked out but said they do respect him. The Young Bucks then came in and said they would still only be the 2nd best tag team no matter what.
Max Caster did a promo on Keith Lee. He said he has no limits on the mic and Bowens calls him Cleveland Jr. (from Family Guy). Starks and Hobbs then come in and it's their duty to put down Lee. Swerve then walks in and says his "whose house?" line but the rest was too fast to understand.
Jericho Appreciation Society came out. Lee said the fans only sing Judas because Jericho lets them. He said if it were up to him, there would be no Judas song. Jericho bragged about things he did and said he carried the company. He said the Inner Circle and the fans didn't appreciate him. He said they can't relate to the rest of the AEW roster and said it's because those people are just pro wrestlers. He said he isn't a pro wrestler but a sports entertainer. Garcia then said he is too. Jericho said he gave money to Garcia when he got hurt in a car crash. He said that's why Garcia appreciates him. He said 2.0 is a stupid name and said they would be going by their real names now which are Angelo Parker and Matt Menard. He said he met them during a podcast he did and got them a job with AEW, and said that's why they appreciate him. Hager said they beat up pro wrestlers. Jericho said mark this date as it begins the era of the sports entertainer. Then said "that's entertainment". This would have worked better if Jericho didn't already fight and get attacked by Garcia and 2.0.
This was a weird tongue in-cheek Jericho promo which got silly as almost his stuff does anymore.
Serena Deeb did a promo on Shida. She took credit for injuring her and said she would be responsible for ending her career.
AEW TNT Title - Scorpio Sky (c) vs Wardlow
They staredown to start. Wardlow picks him up for a back drop and just throws him. Sky hits some forearms and bites him then Wardlow hits corner spears. Wardlow picks him up on his shoulder and spinebusters him. Paige Van Zant gets in his face and Wardlow maks his pecs dance. Wardlow tries to pick up Paige's boyfriend then Sky baseball slides him hard.
We go to break and return. Wardlow hits some overhead belly to bellies which I think could be shots at Ridge Holland injuring Big E with one last week. Wardlow hits a big spinebuster then powerbombs him a few times. Wardlow goes for one outside then Shawn Spears comes out with chairs. MJF then pushes him into the post. Wardlow is out of it but gets back in and rolled up for the win. As usual, this is AEW where the big boys lay and Wardlow get pinned here like he almost always does.
Paige's boyfriend then beats up on Wardlow. Wardlow starts to fight off Spears and got ready to powerbomb MJF, but Spears chaired him. Wardlow then got choked and Spears chairs him. MJF then gave Dan Lambert money. MJF then hit a bad punch with the dynamite diamond ring and knocked him out. He then posed on top of him.
Jade Cargill and Mark Sterling do a promo. Jade asks who is ready to step up and put her to 30-0?
The Hardy Boyz vs Private Party
They should have saved the Hardy's debut for a PPV or at least but it up more than they did here.
The Hardy's hit a double team move early then Jeff jumps off Matt's back for his corner move. Jeff hip tosses Quen then the Hardy's pick up Quen and slam him backwards. Quen hits an enzugiri then PP does a legdrop/standing ssp combo. Matt then gets crotched on the post from the ring.
We return from PiP break and Quen tope con hilo's Matt. Kassidy holds up Matt for a neckbreaker then Quen double stomps it from the top. Quen pounds on Matt in the corner. Jeff gets the hot tag in and beats up on Kassidy then drops him on his front. He goes up top and gets crotched by Quen. Quen then takes a side effect from Matt and Kassidy takes a splash from the 2nd rope from Jeff for 2. PP hits the silly string then the Hardys both hit twists of fate. Jeff then hits a swanton on Kassidy and wins it.
It wasn't bad with the Hardy's hitting their usual spots and Private Party getting some in before the win.
AHFO comes out after. They surround the ring then Sting and Darby come out to help. AHFO then walks off.
Red Velvet is interviewed about her match with Leyla Hirsch on Rampage. She says she stuck up for her and thought she was her friend. She said she will stand up to her on Friday.
AEW Women's Title - Steel Cage - Britt Baker (c) vs Thunder Rosa
The cage has room to go ouside of it on 3 sides.
Rosa gets a mexican female band for her entrance and wears facepaint and a mexican matador outfit. She also has full white and black facepaint. She looks inspired here so she's probably winning (she was noticeably pouting at the PPV when she lost to Britt). Britt gets fireworks for her entrance.
Rosa hits a kick and lariats her early then throws Britt in the cage. Rosa pounds on Britt's head and scrapes it against the cage. Rosa hits a bad slam then is thrown into the cage outside. Britt is bleeding. During the break, Rosa gets tied up in the ropes and slapped around.
Britt throws chairs into the ring then Rosa hits some clothesline and chairs her. Rosa hits a stunner and dropkicks her in the corner. Rosa ducks a superkick and Britt nails the ref. They then run into the ref and knock him out of the ring. Rosa hits a fire thunder driver but no ref is there to count. Rosa goes up top and takes some chair shots.
Britt hits a top rope air raid crash on chairs on Rosa. Aubrey Edwards comes down to make a count but it's only for 2. Her and Britt get in each others faces. Britt puts some chairs together then stacks some on that contraption. Both girls are up top then Britt gets her head banged off the cage and falls onto the top chair and down.
Britt gets back up soon after and gets tacks from under the ring. She hits Rosa with the bag of them and Rosa gets backdropped on them for 2. Britt tries for lockjaw but Rosa bites her fingers. Rosa then powerbombs Britt on the tacks and Britt rolls out. Britt gets a chair from under the ring and hits her. Rosa then hits a fire thunder driver on some tacks and wins it.
This wasn't that great. It had selling issues and the finish wasn't too good with Britt randomly going outside for a chair. It got off to a lame start and was just basic hardcore stuff without much else. Not awful but nothing special.
Additionally, I have questions about Rosa as champ. The women's division sucks and she is not a good promo, nor are there any obvious matches.
Overall thoughts: I really didn't have any problems with this show outside of the Jericho segment. It wasn't great but it was somewhat good overall.
