New Japan Pro Wrestling 2/7/2022 - New Years Golden Series Day 6

New Japan Pro Wrestling 2/7/2022 - New Years Golden Series Day 6

I skipped Tiger Mask/Honma vs Gedo/Yujiro.

Great-O-Khan vs. Yuto Nakashima

Khan stomps Yuto to start. Khan hits a shoulder block then they trade shoulders. Khan hits a big slam and hits a big hiptoss. Yuto hits some forearms and downs Khan with one. He starts pounding on Khan with them and gets a mongolian chop. Yuto hits more forearms and Khan hits more mongolian chops. Khan blasts him with a hard forearm and wins it.

Unique ending here to a short match. I liked all the forearms and Yuto was good at being young and fiery.

Kosei Fujita & Ryohei Oiwa vs. Los Ingobernables de Japon (BUSHI & Hiromu Takahashi)

The rookies nail their opponents with dropkicks to start. Bushi takes some abuse to start and Oiwa slams him. Fujita gets thrown into the barricades and Oiwa does as well. Hiromu tries multiple pin attempts on Oiwa.

Bushi hits some hard double chops on Oiwa then single leg crabs him. Oiwa misses a dropkick but hits the 2nd one. Fujita shoulderblocks Hiromu down then puts him in a full crab that Bushi breaks up. Bushi gets double shoulderblocked then Hiromu's mask is pulled off. Hiromu then takes a double dropkick and gets boston crabbed.

Oiwa tries some forearms and then gets nailed. Hiromu then taps Oiwa with the boston crab.

This was a typical vets vs rookies match. I don't mind these matches though they certainly aren't must see. I thought the rookies put up a good fight here with nice forearms and fire.

TenKoji (Hiroyoshi Tenzan & Satoshi Kojima), Toru Yano & Yuji Nagata vs. Suzuki-gun (DOUKI, Minoru Suzuki, Taichi & TAKA Michinoku)

Suzuki tries to handcuff Yano

Chaos to start as everyone fights. Suzuki beats up Yano and penalty kicks him for 2. Suzuki grabs handcuffs and tries to handcuff himself to Yano. Yano comes back with an atomic drop. Tenzan and Douki are in and Douki takes some strikes. Tenzan lariats him in the corner then suplexes him. Taka trips Tenzan and pulls him out and everyone fights outside. Yano and Suzuki fight over handcuffs outside.

Tenzan gets beat up and comes back with a spinning heel kick on Taka. Nagata hits some kicks on Taka and face kicks him. Douki flies for a big knee then Taka gets an overhead belly to belly from Nagata. Suzuki sits on the apron and armbars Nagata, then Taichi hits some Kawada kicks on Nagata. Nagata knee dropkicks him and tags in Koji, who hits his machine gun chops on Taka and Taichi.

Taichi takes some forearms from Koji and hook kicks him. Koji hits a cutter on Taichi then Taichi takes a 3-D. Yano takes off a corner pad and throws Suzuki into it. Taichi hits an air raid crash and wins it.

Yano throws Taka into a cage outside after.

It ended around when it should have and the vets got their stuff in. The handcuffs stuff with Suzuki and Yano was fun.

CHAOS (Tomohiro Ishii & YOH) vs. House Of Torture (EVIL & SHO)

Ishii throws something at Evil to start and everyone fights as they get in. Evil takes off the corner pad and Yoh goes into it. Sho chokes Yoh with a chair then Evil throws Ishii into the the ring bell guy's desk and he falls over.

Yoh continues getting beat down and Sho steps on him. Yoh hits some chops but Sho stops him. Yoh fires up and gets a dropkick on Evil. Ishii throws Evil in the corner and throws Sho into him. Evil gets lariated a bunch of times between Sho and Ishii then Ishii backdrops Evil.

Togo trips Ishii outside and Sho kicks him from the apron. Ishii suplexes Sho and Yoh hits a big forearm on Sho. Togo distracts the ref and stops a chair attack on Yoh. Sho pushes Yoh into the ref, knocking him out of the ring. He then chairs Yoh and breaks the chair seat over his head.

Evil low blows Ishii then Togo joins in to 3v1 Ishii. Yoh saves Sho from a wrench attack and Yoh nails Sho with the wrench for the DQ. He then pounds on him and clears the ring.

This should have been half as long. The idea wasn't bad, just the House of Torture's act is stale and the DQ finish after all of that was lame.

Hiroshi Tanahashi, Kazuchika Okada & Togi Makabe vs. Los Ingobernables de Japon (SANADA, Shingo Takagi & Tetsuya Naito)

This is a full re-match from the last Korauken show. Okada and Naito fight over a wristlock and headlock early. Okada gets his leg split. Sanada and Tana both try to put each other in holds on the mat but can't. They grab each other's legs at the same time and trust each other to let them go, but then don't. Tana then dragon screws him.

Makabe works Sanada's knee and ties it up on the mat, but Sanada rope breaks. Makabe then puts the leg lock back on. Sanada and Tana trade shots then Sanada dragon screws Tana. Naito comes in and hiptosses Tana then dropkicks Okada's knee on the apron. Okada then comes in and flapjacks Naito.

Okada puts the money clip on him and Naito does a knee breaker then a knee dropkick to him. Shingo and Makabe get in and trade forearms. Shingo suplexes him then hits a sliding lariat for 2.  Everyone gets in and Makabe double clotheslines Sanada and Naito, then lariats Shingo. Makabe does a big slam on Shingo then takes a big lariat from Shingo at 15 minutes.

Shingo hits a last of the dragon on Makabe for the win. Naito figure fours Okada after.

The first part of this match was a waste of time. The second half had Naito working knees then the last part was all about Shingo vs Makabe. It wasn't a bad trios match but as always with NJPW, far from the best they could really do and nothing too special.

Master Wato & Ryusuke Taguchi vs. Suzuki-gun (El Desperado & Yoshinobu Kanemaru)

Wato gets a nice headscissors and a dropkick early, then him and Taguchi double spin kick Despy. Taguchi hit some bad punches on Despy. Despy gets pulled over the top and Wato goes into the rails. Kanemaru hits a big backdrop on Wato then suplexes him for 2.

Despy hits a nice powerslam on Wato. Wato then gets boston crabbed between the ropes as he hangs off the apron. Wato takes a slam then hits a leg lariat and hot tags. Taguchi hits some butt bumps then running hip attacks. He then does a springboard butt bump for 2.

Despy gets a butt bump from Taguchi then Wato springboard euro uppercuts him. Wato then hits a 2nd rope dropkick on Despy for 2. Wato hits some spin kicks and superkicks. Despy hits a big spear on Wato then backdrops him. Wato hits a Toyota roll then a moss covered 3 handed family credenza submission.

Wato goes up top and is thrown off by Despy then takes a spinebuster. Taguchi and Kanemaru come back in Taguchi butt bumps him then is figure four'd. Kanemaru rolls to the ropes and breaks it. Kanemaru moonsaults off the top on Taguchi for 2.

Taguchi hulks up and does a bad boma-ye then ankle locks Kanemaru. Wato does a nice spiral tap from the top on Kanemaru. Taguchi holds up Kanemaru and Wato does a jumping flatliner to win.

This was a lot longer than it needed to be. Taguchi sucks and there was no particular story to this. The finish also wasn't too good as it looked like it hurt Wato as much as Kanemaru. At least they did some dives though.

Overall thoughts: I thought most of the matches went longer than they needed to and were equally good bu equally not as good. I liked the young lions matches best and the semi-main was better than usual. I also did kind of like the Vets vs Suzuki tag.
