WWE 205 Live 4/16/2021
Last week had no new matches so I didn't cover it.
Jake Atlas vs Ashante "Thee" Adonis
Atlas is 1-0 against Adonis, with their last match being in October 2020. Adonis high kicks Jake in the arm to start. Atlas grabs the arm and works on it with an armdrag and an armlock.
Atlas misses an armdrag then takes a hard knee to the ribs. They push each other and Jake takes a hard lariat. Adonis gets another body kick in and a nice chop. Jake goes up top but gets crotched and dropkicked to the floor. Atlas gets banged into the barricade then has his hand banged off the steps. Adonis puts the Fujiwara armbar on.
Atlas mounts a comeback with kicks then spinning heel kicks him and germans him for 2. Jake's mouth is a little bloody and he gets caught up top. Adonis throws him off then does a high crossbody from the top for 2. Adonis rolls up Jake from the apron for 2. Atlas comes back with a big forearm then hits his cartwheel ddt from the top for the win.
As usual, this wasn't anything too special. They lost the flow near the end and both did arm work for nothing.
Adonis yells at Atlas from the ramp after, so maybe it isn't over.
They recapped Santos Escobar vs Kushida from NXT this week, which I also covered here - https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2021/04/wwe-nxt-4132021.html
They also showed August Grey refusing to take the cheap win on Mansoor last week.
August Grey vs Tony Nese with Ariya Daivari
August is 1-0 against Nese. Their last match together was on the 2/26/21 edition of 205 live, which I covered here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2021/02/wwe-205-live-2262021.html
Ariya is on commentary and won't shake Vic Joseph's hand. Nese throws down Grey to start and then poses. Vic is made fun of for being thin by Ariya and says "the only gym I know is my brother(Jim)". Nese moonsaults over Grey off the top and does jumping jacks, then Grey takes him down and jumping jacks him back.
Grey has Nese against the 2nd rope and slides over his back and out, then punches him from the outside. Grey is laying on the top rope. Nese kicks him in the gut and catches him, then gutbusters him over the knee.
Nese hits a backdrop for 2 and gets stopped undoing the turnbuckle. Nese is then catapulted into the buckle but comes back with a high pumphandle slam. Grey hurricanrana's Nese but Nese comes back with a spin kick to the face.
Grey hits his jawbreaker and then the neckbreaker. Grey does his ropewalk twisting crossbody then pounds on Nese. He hits a right hand and throws him backwards on a backdrop. Nese tries to slingshot in and is caught with his neck put over the ropes. Nese hits some kicks and is superkicked. He goes outside and Grey dives on him with Nese going over the announcer's table.
Nese is getting counted out and like last week, breaks the count on the easy win. Ariya is outside ripping him for it. Nese tries to roll up Grey but Grey reverses it for the win.
I liked the callback to last week and the tope bump but little else as this was the usual brainless match.
Overall thoughts: Not a great episode here as usual with two matches that weren't that good.
