AEW Dynamite 3/17/2021
Last week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2021/03/aew-dynamite-3102021.html
We saw MJF's crew arriving in a limo.
Cody Rhodes with Arn Anderson vs Penta El Ciero Miedo
Penta jumps Cody during his entrance and they fight outside. All the wrestlers watching are dressed in green. Cody gets beat up for a bit and tells Penta to hit him harder but Penta stops the comeback with a slingblade. Pent puts on a St. Patrick's Day hat outside and sets up a railing near the rails.
They go up top and Cody hits a top rope hurricanrana. Cody hits a disaster kick to Penta on the apron then he tope's Penta into the rail that was set up. Back in and Cody his a canadian destroyer then a Cody cutter which of course Penta has to kick out of. Why is the canadian destroyer a segway move now? Cody hits a Cross Rhodes but it is only worth 2. Cody then hits a vertebreaker but nope, Super Penta ain't going down to that either. What a bunch of crap.
Cody then bangs Penta's knee of the post and figure four's him. Penta comes back with his arm snap move but Cody doesn't sell it and rolls him up to win. Penta then assaults Cody after. Arn, The Gunn club and Dustin Rhodes get Penta out of there.
This was indy garbage. Kicking out of canadian destroyer's AND vertebreakers in the opening match? Are you kidding me?
Penta goes to leave and QT Marshall gets up near him. He walks down the ramp and everyone is mad at him for not showing up sooner.
The Bucks are supposed to interviewed by Alex Marvez, a guy who they have superkicked in the past for no real reason. Don Callis interrupts quickly and offers a t-shirt for the Young Bucks' dad's recovery. It says "don't slap the leg when kicking", which is a knock on WWE's new no-thigh slapping policy. He said he wanted the Young Bucks to kick him like the Bucks would have done in Japan. He says there is nothing elite about the Bucks anymore. Matt says Don changed Kenny and Don agrees, saying he made him better. Don says they are just another tag team and asks if they see the same Young Bucks he saw in New Japan.
Jade Cargill vs Dani Jordan
Jade hits a big boot to start then hits a nasty release german, which Jade kips up for. Jade then double chickenwing drops her for the win in a quick squash. Put this on Dark or Elevation with the 100 other squashes.
Jade and Red Velvet got into it outside with Jade provoking Velvet.
MJF and his new crew came out, which is with Tully Blanchard, FTR, Wardlow and Shawn Spears. Tully bragged about them beating up The Inner Circle. He said his group is now the baddest group in AEW. MJF said "I guess I am Judas now, huh?". MJF said he pretended to like Jericho and his "haha comedy bs" all this time. He said he never wanted to take over The Inner Circle and the goal was to kill The Inner Circle from the inside. He said he wanted to build a better faction on its remains and said he did.
He called Shawn Spears "Double S" and "The Chairman" and said he has been held down this whole time. He also called Wardlow "Wardog". He said his groups name is "The Pinnacle" and said they will be on top of AEW for years to come. MJF said he would taking The Inner Circle's locker room and said he was better than Jericho.
Matt Hardy, Private Party and The Butcher and The Blade vs Bear Country and Jurassic Express
Marko Stunt starts us off here against Matt because he and his whole team want to lose this. Stunt gets picked up by Hardy and Jungle Boy dropkicks him into Hardy to push him over. Everyone fihgts in the ring and the heels are cleared out. Stunt gets thrown over the top by Bear Country and Jurassic Express doesn't like it.
Boulder slams Marquen and knocks down JB during it, leading to another argument. We go to break and come back with Luchasauras taking down Private Party. Marquen takes a high backdrop from Luchasaurus and Blade is german suplexed. Lucha chokeslams and moonsaults Kassidy. Bronson exploder suplexes Kassidy. Marko even 1v2's PP and PP hits Gin n Juice on Stunt. Matt begs to be tagged in and hits a twist of fate on marko to win. Private Party got buried here and when you have matches with this many people it has to go a while for it to be good.
Jurassic Express and Bear Country argue on the outside.
Moxley and Eddie Kingston talk in the back. Mox is in a bad mood. He said they got a real problem to solve and that's the Good Brothers. He said he doesn't like them for being cheapshot artists. They make fun of The Good Brothers. Eddie quotes rap songs and and says he will see them out there tonight.
Christian Cage is interviewed backstage. He is asked why he signed. He said he is known as a workhorse and said he makes wrestlers better. He said he is only interested in one spot and that's the AEW champion. He says Kenny is on borrowed time. He says he knows he needs to get some wins. He said he is here to cement his legacy and out work everyone. Not a real good promo.
Jon Moxley and Eddie Kingston vs The Good Brothers with Don Callis
Eddie gets jumped during his entrance. Mox makes the save as they fight on the stage. Mox gets thrown into the rails then takes a weak looking magic killer on the outside. The match is officially started after this.
Eddie continues to get beat up on. Eddie ights back with chops after a while and Doc pump kicks Mox off the apron to prevent a tag as we go to picture-in-picture. Eddie makes a comeback as we return and hits a big exploder on Karl. Mox comes in and cleans house. He hits a big lariat on Karl and piledrivers him. Mox tope's Doc on the outside and takes a Karl spinebuster when he comes back in. Mox takes a flying knee + flapjack combo and Eddie takes a reverse 3D. Mox ends up cradling Karl out of nowhere for the most part to win. He is then beat up after. It was fine though I don't know why this went on as scheduled after Mox and Eddie had the crap beaten out of them before it started.
Kenny Omega and Don Callis come down. Eddie gets a shot on Kenny and then gets beaten for it and takes a magic killer. Eddie's ankle is wrapped in a chair and Karl stomps on it from the 2nd rope. Mox gets his head wrapped around the chair for a stomp but The Young Bucks stop it. Kenn adn The Good Brothers want a "too sweet" hand gesture and The Bucks decline. Kenny gets in Nick's face and too sweet's him in the head. Mox finally gets up with a chair and clears out Kenny and crew.
Tony Schiavone did his weekly interview with Sting and also brought out Darby. Darby said he wants to defend his TNT championship week in and week out and challenges Cody. Lance Archer and Jake come out. Archer is mad that Sting is getting another interview. He says Darby is an indyriffic joke and said since he likes coffins so much, he will put him in one. Jake calls Darby a weenie and says Sting will get what is coming to him. Jake says Lance is the biggest and baddest dude and says don't play with him. I don't know what Sting is supposed to do about getting scheduled for a weekly interview segment. Does Archer want him to turn it down or something?
Team Taz then comes out. Cage takes the mic and says he has something to say. He said he respects Sting for coming back week after week. He says Starks is wrong and Sting is still the icon. Team Taz is furious and Cage pushes through them to leave.
We get a package on Scorpio Sky. He says AEW doesn't want him as the poster boy and says he failed at being the nice guy who didn't finish last. He said he is tired of being a stepping stone. He said he wants to prove he is one of the best and will hurt people if he has to.
Rey Fenix with Pac vs Angelico
No Jack Evans here for some reason. Rey wraps him up to start and armdragged him. Rey rolls him up but Angelico wraps up his arm and pounds on him as we go to break.
During the break Angelico keeps control on Rey. We come back with Rey hitting a hurricanrana. He then rolls into a cutter for 2. Angelic hits his twisting indian deathlock but Rey hits the ropes.
They trade kicks and Rey crucifix bombs him, followed by a sitout driver for the win. The 2nd half of this was really rushed with them not doing too much before the break.
Marvez goes up to Miro while he is working out. Miro said he is not interested in a rematch with Chuck Taylor and OC. Kip Sabian says he hasn't moved on as they ruined his wedding. Kip said Ford was hurt from Miro running into her and then Miro says the worst thing he did was getting his wife involved in his career. Miro says when the bell rings, he doesn't care about anything except winning and being world champion. Kip says they accept the challenge.
Marvez interviews the Dark Order in the back. Darby has challenged any of them to a match for the TNT title. -1 agrees, but The D-O says maybe in a decade. Everyone except Silver volunteers so Reynolds volunteers him. He makes goofy faces and puts on a leprechaun hat.
MJF is show in the back taking over The Inner Circle's locker room.
Lights Out Match - Anything Goes - Britt Baker with Rebel vs Thunder Rosa
Rosa gets hit with Rebel's crutch to start, then Britt spears Rosa between the ropes on the stage. She then hits a schwein on the stage on Rosa. Shida is shown watching in the back. Rosa throws a chair at Britt and chairs her back, then she chairs Rebel in the gut. Rosa puts Britt on a chair. She tries to cannonball it but Britt moves and she lands on the concrete outside the rails. They trade shots and Rosa goes into the stage.
A table gets set up outside and Britt curb stomps Rosa's face on the steps. Rosa is bleeding as we go to picture-in-picture break. Awful timing for that. Rosa gets choked over the ropes. Rosa tries to suplex her into a chair but totally misses. We come back from break and Rosa is superplexed onto a pile of chairs from the top. Rosa bulldogs Britt's head onto a ladder. Britt gets put against the bottom buckle and has a ladder dropkicked into her face. Britt is now bleeding too and Rosa bites her wound.
Britt comes back with a superkick and flatliners her into a ladder. They go up top and Rosa hits a nasty death valley driver on Britt on a ladder. Rosa gets ddt'd on a chair then double stomped on a chair but it is only for 2. Britt spills out a bag of thumbtacks. Rebel tries to interfere but gets hit with her own crutch and dropkicked off the apron through a table. Rosa then powerbombs Britt on the tacks for 2...of course. God forbid we end a match without overdoing it.
Britt then puts Rosa in the lockjaw, but she gets out and rolls Britt's back onto the tacks. Britt superkicks her and on the apron, Britt takes an apron emerald flowsion through a table for the Rosa win.
This wasn't perfect and they still had a little bit of the usual sloppiness, but this was a very good effort by both girls and was a pretty good match overall. They did do a little too much though as customary with this promotion.
Overall thoughts: I really only liked the main event here and wasn't too much into the rest. But if you are going to get anything right, make it the main event
