AEW Dynamite 2/10/2021

Last week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2021/02/aew-dynamite-232021-beach-break.html

More pics and gifs to come later.

TNT Championship - Darby Allin vs Joey Janela

If you are wondering how Janela got this without winning any big matches or moving up in the rankings, you aren't alone.

They start off doing technical wrestling for some reason and Darby does a springboard armdrag. Darby is dropped body first on the apron from the suplex position and then Janela topes him. Darby hulked up and was thrown body first into the buckles. Janela does like a grounded camel clutch on him then does a springboard double axe handle. Doughy has quite the gut on him these days and is John Woo'd into the buckles.

Darby does a very hard tope onto him into the barricade. Darby went for a springboard coffin drop and was german suplexed then superkicked. Darby takes a piledriver then comes back with a top rope sunset bomb. Darby then wins with a top rope coffin drop. This was crap as expected with both guys doing a ton of dangerous stuff and not really selling it much in the opener along with telling no real story.

Moxley did a promo saying Kenta has been calling him out for months looking like a dork. Mox wasn't surprised at Kenta jumping him and said if he wants the title, he must beat him for it. He said tonight is just for fun though.

Sammy kicked the Inner Circle out of the back and brought a cameraman with him. He accused MJF of trying to take over the IC. MJF accused Sammy of hating Jericho and accused Sammy of wanting to take over the IC.

MJF was recording all of this secretly, saying that's what he wanted to hear. Sammy threw the phone at the wall and then attacked MJF. Why would MJF try to do some kind of secret recording when the camera was filming in front of him?

Peter Avalon and Cezar Bononi vs Cody Rhodes and Lee Johnson with Arn Anderson

Cody got his own big entrance which Lee and Arn weren't allowed to be part of until after the fireworks. Arn Anderson's son is at ringside and they said he will be training to be a wrestler. Is there some kind of clause in AEW contracts where you can sign a family member or friend if you sign?

No idea why Avalon and Bononi are teaming here. Johnson runs up the buckles and flips over Avalon then dropkicks him. Cezar has some checkered tights on that really don't fit him. Cezar hits a pump handle suplex on Cody and we go to picture-in-picture. This was only a half picture-in-picture break though which was weird.

Moxley is going to be on some game show called The Misery Index and they had a story about him picking up dog crap with his hands.

We come back from break. Avalon is caught by Cody on a dive then Cody drops down on his knees with Avalon on his shoulders. Lee does a nice corkscrew onto Bononi on the outside then does a fisherman neckbreaker on his knee. Bononi pops-up Lee and then drops him sternum first and Lee rolls up Avalon to win. They make it seem like a big deal as supposedly it is his first win but everyone has beaten Avalon. The commercial break really interrupted this as the finish happened soon after it.

Lee Johnson was interviewed with The Nightmare Family. He put over Cody and Brandi. Of course he does because he likes having a job, as his trainers and said The Rhodes Family is his family and they helped him win this.

The Bucks were being interviewed and The Good Brothers came in. They bragged about the AEW vs NXT ratings, really. The Good Brothers tried to explain their way out of The Bucks losing the battle royale last week. The Bucks said they should defend their tag titles next week against Santana and Ortiz. Anderson talked about how good the ratings will be for that.

In case you are wondering, Santana and Ortiz are the #5 ranked contenders. They are the only team in the top five with a loss which further buries rankings that seem to count only when AEW says so or not.

Page was interviewed and Hardy came in. He invited him to a free bar and he accepted. Page then ran into the Dark Order and had to explain himself.

Pac with Rey Fenix vs Ryan Nemeth

Pac suplexes Ryan early. Pac tries to do a John Woo dropkick from the top but Ryan sells it as a normal dropkick. Pac hits a bunch of spin kicks. Ryan gets lifted up and swings his body down for a big DDT on Pac. They immediately go outside though where Ryan is ran into the rails. Pac stands on Nemeth's face and Nemeth is completely out after some awful stomps. Pac then hits the Black Arrow and the Brutalizer to win.
OC and Taylor celebrated ruining the wedding.

MJF stooged on Sammy and called him a maniac to Jericho. Jericho apparently had no idea of what happened.

Chris Jericho and MJF vs The Acclaimed

The Dark wrestlers looked like geeks as usual singing Jericho's theme. The Acclaimed don't need to lose this one but probably will. The Acclaimed did a rap on their opponents.

MJF did an inset with Jericho taking credit for the Acclaimed success, saying they wouldn't be here without him. MJF shoved Fuego del Sol in the face. Bowens did a slingshot elbow on Jericho. Bowens lifted up MJF for a backdrop, but then dropped him on his front. Jericho and MJF double stomped Caster in the corner then double flapjacked him. We had another picture-in-picture break. MJF tried a double axe handle off the top on Caster, but Caster hit him in the gut and he flipped.

We went to break and came back with Jericho assisting MJF with an abdominal stretch. Why are The Acclaimed working face here after being heels? Both tag out after a Caster hiptoss. Bowens clears off their opponents. Bowens lifts up MJF in something like a rack then does a drop on him. Ortiz tries to interfere and gets dropped and Caster hits Jericho in the head with a boom box...which Jericho kicks out of. Why?  Bowens tried to dive on someone and they moved and he took a bad bump down. Hager pushed Caster off the top and Jericho won with a judas effect. Why were the IC allowed at ringside after the rule about only 1 person being allowed out at ringside a few weeks ago? This wasn't good and the booking was bad.

Sammy was asked why he wasn't out there. He said he promised if one more thing happened with MJF, he would leave. Then he said he is quitting the Inner Circle. About time. It doesn't make sense why these people stay together when they all hate each other.

Sammy was asked why he quit the IC and he said he needed time away.

Page was very drunk and Hardy was celebrating their win. He was pretending to drink. Hethen tried to get Page to sign a contract. Page threw away the contract when Matt wasn't looking and had Hardy sign some contract he had.

We then had our weekly Tony Schiavone and Sting interview. Team Taz cut in and said they were going somewhere and had Darby in a body bag and dragged him by car. That's a kidnapping charge at minimum...and they did it right on camera too.

Alex Marvez interrupted Kenny Omega the golf course. Alex asked what he was doing out here when he is in a big match tonight. He said he is clearing his thoughts and is one with nature. He said he forgot what it is like to lose and he won't lose today. Kenny asked his buds if he got the ball in the hole and they said he did. Marvez asked for a ride out.

AEW Women's Championship Eliminator Tournament - Leyla Hirsch vs Thunder Rosa

Nothing like a US version of a tournament where neither person was born in the US.

Rosa did a promo talking about wanting to this tournament, wanting her NWA Women's title back and wanting Britt Baker. Rosa hit a running senton early. Leyla did a tope on Rosa then did a rolling armbar onto her that was not cleanly put on. We go to picture in picture break, which I think is the 3rd match interrupted by this. Back from break and Rosa corrner dropkicks Leyla. Leyla does a 2nd rope crossbody. She goes for a top rope moonsault but Rosa gets her knees up. Leyla went for another top rope moonsault but Rosa moved then knee'd her. Leyla rolled her up but was slammed down after an armbar attempt, then Rosa hit a weird falcon arrow type of move to win.

Jungle Boy was interviewed by Tony. They said Marko was OK after his kidnapping. JB said his match last week against Dax was the hardest in his career and he said he would make Dax his b!tch. JB is not a good promo.

Falls Count Anywhere - Kenny Omega and Kenta vs Lance Archer and Jon Moxley

Kenny did his dumb entrance with the broom girls here. That entrance is dumb enough in a normal match yet alone in a falls count anywhere match. which should be taken more seriously. Kenta hits Mox with the briefcase to start, then he hits Archer with it. Archer no sells the shot. Omega gets pounced by Archer.

Mox and Kenta go face to face and trade forearms and Omega comes in to hit Mox with a trash can. Omega does a middle rope trashcan moonsault and Kenta dropkicks the trashcan into Mox's face. Archer brings in a ladder and takes out both opponents with it and Mox topes Kenta. Archer suplexes Omega on the ladder. We go to our fourth picture-in-picture break. Kenny gets thrown into a trash can during the break. Kenta puts Mox in a chair and does his knee kick on him.

Kenta Go to Sleep's Peter Avalon for some reason as we come back. Omega jumped up on the barricade and Archer chokeslammed him onto a heart shaped table, crash pad or mattress. Mox then puts Kenta in a chair and kicks him. Mox and Kenta fight in the kitchen Kenta gets put on a steel moving cart/table and DDT's Mox on it. Mox was then crossfaced on it and Archer hit Kenta with a bag of potatoes. Archer had a plastic trash can thrown at him and Mox hit Omega with a potato.  The announcers of coursed used the "throwing a potato" joke, which means to throw a punch that actually hurts.

Mox hit Kenny with kendo stick shots. Mox got put on a table and Kenta hit him with a double footstomp on it off the ramp in a cool spot. Archer caught a kendo stick shot from Kenny and broke it over his knee. Then he chokeslammed Kenny and did his dumb ropewalk into a moonsault. The Good Brothers came out after this. Why they waited so long, I don't know. It's not like they could be DQ'd. Archer tried to chokeslam Karl and was hit with a cutter. Jake then hit a short arm clothesline on Karl  and Doc took him down.

Mox then hit everyone with his barbed wire bat except Kenta who hit the GTS. Archer took out Kenta then took a magic killer form the Good Brothers. Omega got help putting Archer into a one winged angel and Archer was pinned because this is AEW and the big guys always lose to the small guys. As I expected they did a little too much. The logic of The Good Brothers not coming in until the end didn't make sense but other than that, it is pretty hard to screw up these falls count anywhere matches.

Overall thoughts: Not a good one with some bad booking.
