WWE Friday Night Smackdown 12/25/2020

 WWE Friday Night Smackdown 12/25/2020

They had lighting for the intro.

WWE Universal Championship - Cage Match - Roman Reigns vs Kevin Owens

They pound each other to start and Owens goes head first into the cage. Ownes ducks a superman punch and Owens DDT's him. Owens goes into the ropes and comes back with a nice lariat then a legdrop. Owens cannonball's Roman in the corner and pounds on him before. KO goes for the pop-up powerbomb, but Roman legdrops him. Owens frogsplashes him from the top for two.

We get a long commercial and Owens gets powerbombed as we return. Roman hits a bunch of clotheslines and punches in the corner then gets a pop-up powerbomb himself. In the corner, Roman runs Owens' head into the back of the cage but Owens hits his own fisherman's buster from the top instead.

Owens goes for a stunner but takes a Superman punch instead. Owens gets thrown into the page and gets hammered on by Roman. Roman tries to guillotine Owens in the ropes, but instead, Owens pulls Roman's chin down and chokes him with the rope. Owens hits a stunner and we go to our second commercial break.

We come back and KO is almost over the cage after knocking down Roman. Roman grabs him. They fight on the top rope and Owens' superkicks him down, then sentons him, but Roman has his knees up. Roman then spears him for 2. Roman tries go through the door and it really raises a lot of questions about why no one has tried it yet. KO slams the door in Roman's head and Kevin slams Roman's head off the cage. One of the Uso's tries to stop KO's escape, but he nails him with the door, then Roman catches him. Owens goes for the pop-up powerbomb but takes a superman punch, then Roman spears the cage.

Jey Uso handcuffs Owens to the cage. Roman then walks right out. If you ignore them not trying to exit through the cage door sooner, this was a pretty good match. The two commercial breaks hurt it, but it was all action from start to finish and it's hard to complain about it.

Owens beats his own head off the cage in frustration and Roman talks trash to him.

Asuka and Charlotte went to talk then Bayley came out. Bayley said they are impressive but she is more impressive. Sasha Banks then came out after Bayley said she was women's champ for 300+ days. Banks said she's the champ now and that's impressive. Bianca Belair then came out twirling her hair around. Sasha and Bayley seemed to enjoy her music.

Belair said she was the "est" of SD, and then Carmella came out. Are there any other divas who want to come out? She basically said she was good looking and therefore most impressive and Banks pushed her.

WWE Women's Tag Titles - Elimination Match - Charlotte and Asuka vs Carmella and Bayley vs Bianca Belair and Sasha Banks

The finish

Asuka wearing a shirt here. She butt bumped Carmella in the face and Carmella did Yoshino's old headscissors over the top rope. Sasha came in and flurried Carmella. Carmella tagged in Charlotte. Charlotte mocked Bianca, telling her to kiss her ass then Bianca did it back. Then they both did a kip-up. Everyone fought outside and Sasha dropped double knees on Flair, and Asuka butt bumped Bianca.

We come back from break with Bayley and Asuka battling. Carmella bronco buster's Asuka for 2. Asuka gets 2v1'd in the corner. Belair gets in and shoulderblocks Bayley then really pummels here in the corner. Sasha takes a big fallaway slam and Bayley takes a big spinebuster. Sasha then frogsplashes Bayley to eliminate her team.

Flair does a yakuza kick to Sasha's chest and figure four's her. Belair threw Sasha her hair to drag her into the ropes then Sasha was able to tag her. Belair did a handspring into the ropes then a moonsault onto Flair. Flair knocked her off the top. And Sasha dropped double knees onto Charlotte's face. Asuka butt bumped Sasha into Carmella's wine guy. Asuka started teeing off on Belair, but Belair caught her leg and liberbomb'd her. Something fell out of Asuka's hair during that. Flair hit like a cutter from behind and won it.

It's kind of hard to tell stories or do anything really when you have this many people involved, but they kept the action moving and it was fine for what it was.

The Street Profits were singing in the back. They walked into a Sami Zayn(who looks like the White Castro), arguing with someone. The Street Profits had a gift for Zayn. It was a shirt that said "I was Intercontinental Champion". Sami said they weren't funny, and well, he was right.

Daniel Bryan vs Jey Uso

DB gets jumped during his entrance and thrown into gifts. We come back from break and the refs try to talk DB out of continuing, but he wants to and Jey jumps on him. Jey topes him on the outside and throws him into the steps. Jey hits a big samoan drop on him. Uso does a running hip attack into his face as he sits in the corner. Uso runs into DB near the ropes and gets backdropped over. DB goes for a tope on him but gets hit in the gut and crashes into the announcer's table.

Back in and DB hits a backdrop from the top onto Jey as we go to break. We return and DB clips Jey in the ankle he injured when getting backdropped outside. DB works over Jey more with kicks but charges in and ends up taking two superkicks. Jey then frogsplashes him from the top but holds his ankle.

Jay comes off the top again and DB puts him in the crossface the nmoves over to a single leg crab o nthe injured ankle. They take turns grounding and pounding each other on the mat, which Jey wins. They get back up and DB wins it with the flying knee. It was fine, maybe even good. I didn't have any real complaints about this.

Big E is in the back warming up.

DB gets interviewed in the back. DB says he has never won the Royal Rumble and this is something he wants to chase. He announced his entry into it, but don't others have to qualify? Zayn interrupts saying DB was saying the IC title needed defended more. Zayn said he thinks DB told management to set-up the Zayn/Big E match tonight. DB seemed confused and said he thought it meant Santa didn't get Zayn a PS5.

Big E is in the back warming up and his hairline has receded.

We saw clips of the Sami Awards with Big E winning Superstar of the Year and beating up Zayn.

Intercontinental Title - Lumberjack Match - Sami Zayn vs Big E

I legit hate both of these guys. Zayn gets like back tossed early. The Lumberjacks beat up Big E and thrown him back in after he gets out. Big E goes out again and gets beat up again. Zayn takes a gorilla clutch but hits the ropes. Zayn fights Big E from the apron and gets clotheslined on it and stomped on it. E tries to splash him on it but gets nothing. The lumberjacks fight E and Zayn dives on him.

Back after break and Zayn still has control. E belly to belly's him then corner STO's him. E charges into the ropes with Zayn there and Zayn knees him. The show started late due to football and it is still going on now at 10:01PM.

Zayn and E fight up top and Zayn sunset bomb's him for 2. E spears Zayn through the ropes and the lumberjacks hit E. they try to throw Zayn in, but he ducks and the lumberjacks nail each other. Zayn then runs and Apollo Crews c
hases him down. The lumberjacks bring him back in. E hits a splash and The Big Ending to win. It was what it was.

They give E a big celebration with confetti to close.

Overall thoughts: Not a bad episode of SD at all with everything being at worst decent.
