Wrestlemania 34 Review
Finn Balor vs Seth Rollins vs The Miz - I hate two of these guys and
don't like the 3rd. Really didn't pay that much attention and it felt
like it went on too long.
Asuka vs Charlotte - 3 years of build for this? Charlotte just had to be
protected, huh? I've been planning for the last year to have Asuka go
against Rousey in a year or two, but obviously, a lot of the interest on
that one is no longer relevant. Really good match, one of Charlotte's
best and Charlotte had a nice entrance, but the bad booking here blew
what was an otherwise great match. I have no idea what you do with Asuka
from here on out except to send her away or feed her to Rousey. The
only good thing that could come out of this is a long term rivalry
between Asuka and Charlotte, but this isn't my booking nor 1980's
Memphis, and that's unlikely to happen.
US Title Match - They kept this one pretty action packed but the wrong
guy clearly won here and this was a total throwaway. I honestly forgot
that Jinder was still on the roster.
Ronda Rousey and Kurt Angle vs Triple H and Stephanie McMahon - This was
much better than I expected. The beginning of that match wasn't that
amazing and Rhonda's first little bit of offense wasn't clean, but from
then on out she looked great. Really liked her overall ring presence and
Rhonda does seem to have the body language and charisma to be a star.
Steph got a bit too much offense in for my liking for especially for
WWE, it was well done. One of the better mixed tags I've seen and the
crowd really helped Ronda along.
New Day vs The Uso's vs The Bludgeon Brothers - Midgets in pancake
costumes doing worms is pretty hard to top. They did a lot here and
never really slowed down. It was action packed but nothing real special
and The Brothers really aren't over a lick. I blame their costumes and
the fact that we know them as cult members, not as The Hammer Bros.
John Cena vs The Undertaker - The whole build to this has been a joke
and a total waste of a money making match. This was quick, to the point
and worked. We got to see all of Taker's big moves and we got a jam
packed couple of minutes with Taker looking good and walking out the
hero. It's just too bad this wasn't done 5-10 years earlier when Taker
would have been able to go 30+.
Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon vs Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens - Never
thought we'd see DB back and I'm really happy. I have a bad feeling
he's going to take a bad shot down the line and end up out again, so we
gotta appreciate it while we can. Pretty good match here. Shane's hurt
stomach was played up as was DB's injured brain. DB was big time over
and the faces won in the end. DB threw some great punches and it's great
to see him back.
Nia Jax vs Alexa Bliss - A little long but a good smart match. Nia was
overpushed for a long time but has finally gotten to the point where she
is deserving of her push. Bliss looked good as always and I'm going to
miss her as champ as she's the total package. Pretty good performance by
both girls.
AJ Styles vs Shinsuke Nakamura - Just happened at the wrong time. Too
late in the card and slowing it down after the whole show has been go go
go just wasn't right for the crowd. It looked good enough, but these
long technical matches don't work so well for casual crowds like this. I
didn't see the turn coming and it'll be interesting to see what a heel
Nakamura looks like in WWE.
The Bar vs Braun Strowman and ? - The mardi gras characters running
from Braum was great. The rest was a pro wrestling nightmare. This was
an abomination and it ruined a show that was otherwise pretty good.
Roman Reigns vs Brock Lesnar - Literally doesn't matter. I'm not over
that Braun thing and I don't care. Crowd didn't wanna see it and didn't
care. Roman bled like I haven't seen in a long time and the camera's
caught it in a beautiful shot. Brock won in a shocker and I don't know
why they wasted our time if this was the end goal.
Overall thoughts - Pretty great show til the Braun segment, which was
one of the worst segments ever in wrestling. The main event flopped as
expected even though Roman got some wonderful color. The Ronda match was
probably the match of the night and the Asuka loss was awful booking.
One of the better Mania's of the last few years but the last hour hurt
the previous 5 good hours.
