New Japan Pro Wrestling 3/19/1974 - Andre the Giant vs Seiji Sakaguchi

I did a podcast on this match in ProWresBlog Episode 1 here:
 https://youtu.be/v9bectNpL9Y

Seiji Sakaguchi beat Andre the Giant at around 15-17 mins when Andre's manager interferred, tripping him and then punching him. Good match with a bad finish. Andre in the 70's is something to be seen. He was working holds, bumped and sold well and was just such a raw physical freak of nature. He would be so huge right now if he around like this today. This was pretty much all technical wrestling and working holds with Seiji even hanging in there and getting the better of Andre the Giant striking wise until the finish. Andre the Giant also did his usual spot where he got stuck in the ropes and the highlight was seeing him do a full backwards bump over the top rope which I put in gif form above. The match didn't have a great story to it or anything but it looked real and the work was absolutely fine. This is the 70's though and you have a better chance of seeing a shooting star press than a clean finish. Rating:***1/2
