G1 Climax – Block B: Kota Ibushi vs. Yujiro Takahashi
Yujiro Takahashi picked up the win with his finisher. Good opener. Kota flew around and Yujiro really stiffed him hard. He dropped him on his head twice and Ibushi sold well here. Rating:***
G1 Climax – Block B: Yuji Nagata vs. Karl Anderson
Anderson got the win, reversing an exploder into a cutter. This was mostly all comedy and goofing around and I didn't really care for it at all. I'm just glad it is over with.
G1 Climax – Block A: Katsuyori Shibata vs. Prince Devitt
Shibata won with a GTS. This wasn't real good. Devitt is now a comedic heel and there was too much interference in this short match. Shibata did bust out a plancha though.
G1 Climax – Block A: Kazuchika Okada vs. Tomohiro Ishii
Okada got the win with a Rainmaker. Good match. Ishii was the star, as usual. He was fiery and the crowd really liked him. He hit Okada with some good shots but I didn't think Okada sold them well enough. I loved Ishii's Rainmaker reversal and he also took a nasty tombstone on his head. This was a lot of fun. Rating:***1/4
G1 Climax – Block A: Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Lance Archer
Tanahashi won with the High Fly Flow. This was a little rough at times and these two didn't fully click. It was too quick to get the story really across and the crowd wasn't as much into it as they could have been.
G1 Climax – Block B: Tetsuya Naito vs. Toru Yano
Yano won with a roll-up and a pin. Not a good one here. Yano cheated like always and Naito made some comebacks until losing.
G1 Climax – Block B: Minoru Suzuki vs. Shelton Benjamin
Who put this as the semi-main event?
Suzuki got the win with a Gotch-Style Piledriver. Oh this was bad. Really bad. Styles clash isn't the word for this one.
G1 Climax – Block A: Togi Makabe vs. Satoshi Kojima
Togi Makabe won with a King Kong Knee Drop. This was okay but not that great. These two are really similar but it didn't get stiff or fiery enough for me. It was an acceptable main event, but not what we have been accustomed to in this tournament.
Rankings:
Overall thoughts: This was one of the lesser days of the G1. There were only two matches I liked here and I just was not into this one at all. This one also had a house show type of feel to it.
I'm sad that this show turned underwhelming since number 7 is my lucky number :(
