Sumo Nagoya Basho 2013 Day 5

Sumo Nagoya Basho 2013 Day 5

I didn't watch this one but Chiyonokuni did a split today against Aoiyama:
He had to leave in a wheelchair.

Ms22e   Yamatofuji (2-0) vs Ms24e   Kyokutaisei (2-0)

Yamato had a great grip but Kyoku fought it off and got the win here. Kyoku is looking good and could be a threat this basho.

J13e    Chiyoarashi (2-2) vs  J13w    Endo (3-1)
Endo was marvelous here. Chiyo had a hip throw all ready, but Endo used his balance and stayed inside the ring, then pushed Chiyo right down for a great win. End should finish in the top half of Juryo and could be on the second or third level of finishers here. Never know, a win is even possible if he is lucky.

J12w    Wakakoyu (3-1) vs  J11w    Takanoyama (1-3)
Tak got destroyed here with throat thrusts. Waka looked strong and got an easy win.
J7e     Asahisho (3-1) vs  J9w     Osunaarashi (3-1)
Osuna went for a grab, Asahi pull him down and knocked him off balance instead for a win.

J1e     Takanoiwa (3-1) vs  J3w     Tochinowaka (3-1)
Tochino wouldn't budge here and solidly put Takano out for an easy win. At this rate, Tochino should be up in the top division for the next basho.

M10e    Aran (1-3) vs  M13w    Jokoryu (2-2)
Back and forth match here with Aran stepping out and taking the loss.

K1e     Shohozan (0-4) vs  S1w     Goeido (1-3)
Goeido lost here to go to  1-4.

S1e     Myogiryu (2-2) vs  O2w     Kotooshu (4-0)
Myo had a nice charge and had Koto in big trouble, but Koto went for a throw and with Myo on the bottom, it was a good move for a Koto win.

O2e     Kakuryu (3-1) vs  M1w     Takayasu (2-2)
They stalemated here. Kaku stretched out too far and his knee hit the ground to take the loss.

M1e     Takekaze (0-4) vs O1w     Kotoshogiku (4-0)
Koto had a nice diagonal angle on Take that Take couldn't budge. Koto then pushed him out.

O1e     Kisenosato (3-1) vs  M3e     Chiyotairyu (3-1)
Chiyo attacked hard and multiple times. Kisen couldn't keep up. He went a little to the side and Chiyo pushed him hard out. Good win for Chiyo and Kisen can kiss Yokozuna goodbye until 2014.
K1w     Tokitenku (0-4) vs Y1w     Harumafuji (3-1)
Toki tried a leg sweep, missed and fell royally on his backside for a well deserved loss.

Y1e     Hakuho (4-0) vs M2w     Gagamaru (0-4)
Hakuho underhooked and threw Gaga for an easy and impressive win.

Rankings:

It appears that Hakuho may have this wrapped up already. I think he needs one more Harumafuji loss to be safe because there is no way Kotoshogiku and Kotooshu go through this without at least 3 losses a piece. Chiyotairyu has a good shot at finishing strong but he still has to take on Kakuryu, Kotooshu, Harumafuji and Hakuho.
After looking at Juryo standings, the leaders are all pretty solid. Tochino probably has the best shot on paper and Endo would kind of be a risky bet, but it is possible. Osuna won't win this but I'd consider it impressive if he can go 8-7 or 9-6 in his first time in Juryo.
