Sumo May Natsu Basho 2013 Day 14

Sumo May Natsu Basho 2013 Day 14

Ms15e   Kyokutaisei (3-3) vs Ms9w    Dewahayate (3-3)
This was a close one with Kyoku stepping out and getting a makekoshi.

J8e     Tochinowaka (9-4) vs J3w     Kotoyuki (11-2)
Tochino slipped here to take a bad loss. Kotoyuki stays in the Juryo title hunt.
J1e     Tamawashi (10-3) vs J13w    Kagamio (11-2)
Tama backed out of the tachi-ai and Kagamio went forward and down.
J6e     Tokushoryu (11-2) vs  J12w    Chiyoarashi (6-7)
This was close but Toku pulled it out by putting Chiyo too far off balance and down. With this win, there is a tie for the Juryo Title.

J5e     Satoyama (4-9) vs J10w    Takanoyama (6-7)

The judges gave this to Satoyama. They said Tak stepped out in the first pic and it is close, but I am thinking he didn't. I think he was sitting on the edge but didn't step over. This sucks because Takanoyama now gets a makekoshi and could be out of Juryo all together.

M5e     Shohozan (7-6) vs O2w     Kotooshu (7-6)
Koto had to dig low to grab Shohozan and digged too low and Shohozan got his kachikoshi and the win over an Ozeki. Kotooshu is now at 7-7 and needs to win tomorrow in order to stop a well deserved demotion.
O2e     Kotoshogiku (9-4) vs M4w     Toyonoshima (7-6)
Koto won here. He was the aggressor from the start and Toyo couldn't do much but delay the loss.
Y1e     Hakuho (13-0) vs O1e     Kisenosato (13-0)
Hakuho won in a close one here. They both struggled and were trying to put the other one down. They were both even and both went down with Hakuho landing on top. Hakuho will at worst go to a playoff tomorrow for the title if he somehow loses.

O1w     Kakuryu (10-3) vs Y1w     Harumafuji (10-3)

Both men were off balance but Harumafuji was the aggressor and somewhat spun Kakuryu out for the win.

  1. A Kisenosato win and a push towards Yokozuna status would probably be good for the sport, but Hakuho's gonna Hakuho. He's in beast mode.

I think Takanoyama got screwed. I was going to give the judge the benefit of the doubt because he was a few feet away, but I still don't see how he stepped out. If the sumo forum guys are to be believed (and a few of them see to have scary good knowledge of how the promotion/relegation/scheduling works), Takanoyama will still be just hanging on in Juryo, but another MK will probably knock him out.

I'm going to laugh when Kotooshu slips and falls on his ass right out of Ozeki.

Would love a Harumafuji upset to force a playoff, but I'm not betting on it.

    1. I'd cheer Kisenosato if he somehow got to a playoff. I don't love him or anything but three yokozuna's at one time would be pretty cool and would make things more interesting.

What I didn't like about the Tak match was that, why wasn't it stopped if he went out? It went on for like 15 seconds after. It was a very odd situation. Tak better win tommorow to have a better chance of staying in Juryo. I wish for the day when he would be in makuuchi, but it won't happen. I want to see Tak vs Osuna!

Koto slipping to get put out of Ozeki would be a fitting end for him at Ozeki.

Yeah, I think it won't happen either, but it would be interesting if it does. Haruma is definitely going to be under pressure to win the next one.
