AAA on Fox 5/23/2026

AAA on Fox 5/23/2026

Last week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2026/05/aaa-on-fox-5162026.html

We are in Mexico City, Mexico. Corey Graves, JBL and Savio Vega are on commentary.

We see various wrestlers arrive and hang out. It seems like there are audio issues as we can't hear the commentators for this segment.

Chessman, Dorian, Marisela, Cibernetico, Texano Jr., the Mexican announcer Jesus and others are in the ring. Various wrestlers surround the ring and Dominik Mysterio is watching in the back. There is no English commentary for this segment.

We see a video on the history of AAA. We then hear new translator talk (who we are told is Savio Vega) and he says they are introducing a new GM. Marisela Pena says today sets the path for the future of this company. She says the new GM is a visionary who understands the heart of wrestling. She says this person will take AAA to a new era. The new GM is Rey Mysterio. We then hear JBL and Graves.

Rey Mysterio comes out. JBL complains and says there will be riots everywhere. Dom Mysterio and Dorian Roldan are both upset about this. Savio Vega says hi to everyone. Rey Mysterio talks. He says he had a dream 30 years ago and says AAA gave him the one opportunity he asked for. He says he found a new family in AAA 30 years ago and returns as a GM.

Rey says he will take the company to a bigger level. Rey announces that the AAA Cruiserweight Title will be up for grabs now and it's Laredo Kid vs Rey Fenix.

AAA World Cruiserweight Title Match - Laredo Kid (c) vs. Rey Fenix

They lock up. Kid backs him up in the corner. Rey wristlocks him. Kid headflips out. Rey does leapfrogs and takes armdrags. Rey misses a dropkick.

They shoulderblock battle. Kid topes Rey. Kid comes off the top and Rey sitout powerbombs him. Kid hits kicks and neckbereakers him. Kid michinoku drivers him for 2. Rey pulls Kid's throat down over the top rope. Rey is stuck on the 2nd rope. Rey 2nd rope moonsaults and backrolls into a cutter on Kid for 2.

Rey hits a death valley bomb for 2. They hit each other and Kid canadian destroyer ddt's Rey for 2. They trade chops and forearms. Rey high kicks him. Kid poisonrana's him. Rey germans him.

Rey springboard spin kicks Kid in the face. Kid cradles Rey out of the mexican muscle buster. Rey superkicks him and rope walk kicks him. Kid takes a very weird looking fall into the ropes and is struggling to get up. The ref tries to stop Rey as Kid is still down. The ref looks to the bell ringer and low blows Rey. Kid then top rope frogsplashes Rey and pins him.

Thoughts
: Kid's fake knockout at the end was pretty good here and he did some great selling for it. This just further confirms his heel turn. I didn't like this otherwise. They didn't sell much at all and the canadian destroyer ddt meant nothing.

Next week is the start of La Noche de Las Grandes and the big El Grande Americano Original vs El Grande Americano II mask match will happen next week.

Rey Mysterio talks to Laredo Kid in the back and Spanish. Rey complains about Kid won. Kid says a win is a win. Rey says Kid will face Rey Fenix again next week at Noche de los Grandes.

We see a pep rally for El Grande Americano II.

Anything Goes Match - Los Americanos Hermanos (Bruto Creedo & Julio Creedo) vs. Los Americanos (Bravo Americano & Rayo Americano)

All 4 fight in the ring to start. JC clubs on Rayo then Rayo step up enzugiri's him. Rayo top rope la silla's JC. JC overhead throws him. Rayo takes a backcracker into a fallaway slam. Bravo top rope crossbodies BC. Bravo flying headscissors BC. Bravo hits punches on BC.

Bravo takes a double pop up drop. Bravo is held for shots. Rayo headscissors BC over the top. Bravo walks off of 2 people's backs and dives on JC outside. Rayo 2nd rope moonsaults JC. BC top rope cannonballs his opponents outside. Bravo is sent into the post. Rayo dropkicks BC. Rayo is slammed on the bottom half of the steps. The Creedo's miss a chair shot then get hit with chairs. JC takes double Kawada kicks and is double pounded on.

JC's crotch is pulled into the post. A pinata El Grande is grabbed. Rayo meteora's the pinata into JC. Rayo tells Bravo to get the tables. JC backdrops Bravo on the apron. JC hits shots on Rayo. Rayo is hit with the pinata then lariated by JC. Rayo is slammed on a chair then side slammed on a chair. Rayo fights off both opponents. Rayo is held for a standing pedigree and JC jumps over BC's back to add more to it.

Bravo comes in and hits JC with a US flag. BC is hurricanrana'd off the buckles and also hit with the flag. Bravo topes through the ropes and splashes BC on the floor. Bravo airplane spins JC. BC takes a double top rope diving headbutt for 2. Rayo and BC trade forearms. Rayo hits Kawada kicks and enzugiri's him. JC and Bravo then hit kicks. Bravo and Rayo take a super collider for 2. JC goes up top and hits a double superplex, which may be the first time that has ever been done. BC top rope moonsaults then JC top rope 450's Bravo for 2.

Rayo comes in and hits The Creedos with a kendo stick. BC is laid on a table. Bravo top rope splashes him through the table. Bravo loads up his mask on the ropes. He flying headbutts JC while Rayo russian legsweeps him. El Grande Americano Original belly to belly suplexes Bravo through a table. He then throws Rayo from the apron through the commentary table.

El Grande Americano II comes out. He hits Los Creedos with a chair. The Grande's argue in the ring but neither touches the other. Grande II gets on the mic and talks about what Grande Original did to him. Grande II gets him upset and Grande Original gets in the ring. Grande Original takes his jacket off and he has a shirt on with Grande II's girlfriend on it.

Grande II goes to hit him but Rayo and Bravo stop him. Los Creedos then stop Grande Original from going after Grande II. Grande Original and Grande II then hit each other at the same time, so no one will get in trouble. They fight and everyone, including security, tries to break it up.

Rey Mysterio comes out. He tells everyone to relax. He says they made a big mess on his first day as GM. He says he won't let this ruin the mask match next week and they start fighting again. Other wrestlers then come out to break the fight up. The match ends due to a no contest and everyone fights.

Thoughts: The match was very hard to call because the two teams look so much alike. Rayo has blue on his outfit which makes him look like Bravo. And in various positions, it's hard to tell The Creed's apart with masks on. They did about as good as they could without being able to get blood and without being able to do anything crazy. We got flying, brawling and various weapons shots. The crowd was into it too. The Grande vs Grande feud is easily the feud of the year and even their fights outside the ring have been entertaining. I thought they handled them hitting each other well here. Yeah, this was Los Creedos vs Los Americanos, but the real feud is here is Grande vs Grande and they did that well. This was good and effective. We didn't get a finish, but it didn't even matter.

We get a video with some comic graphics that covers the Grande vs Grande feud.

Overall thoughts
: The biggest match of the year is happening next week with El Grande Americano Original vs El Grande Americano II in the mask vs mask match. No, it won't get as much talk or as many views as anything at Mania did, but everyone who has been following AAA is hyped for that bout. It's been very well booked. The two have done some great brawls to lead up to it. El Grande II has become the second most over face in Mexico next to Mistico and the whole thing has just been massive success. I never watch AAA live, but I'm not missing that match for anything. They did a great job building up that match in the go home show and that's all that matters.

I didn't like Rey/Laredo. It was indy wrestling and not my thing. We didn't get a finish in the main but the main and post-main shenanigans was good enough and it didn't matter. I love Savio Vega, but he was not good on commentary here. He's a great wrestler and an even better booker, but he wasn't fast or accurate enough as a translator and couldn't provide a lot. He's also a Puerto Rican wrestling guy, not a lucha guy and because those styles are so different, he can't really provide a lot of the insights on lucha like Rey can. Maybe he can get better, but it was not a good night for him.

As I alluded to though, it doesn't matter. They needed to get one thing right here with the mask vs mask match and they knocked it out of the park. This gets a 7 out of 10 from me and it was a good show.
