Houston Wrestling 12/28/1978 - Ken Patera vs The Spoiler

Houston Wrestling 12/28/1978 - Ken Patera vs The Spoiler

"Right now it doesn't matter who is the strongest man in the world, because Ken Patera can't grow enough muscle between his ears to fight off the nerving effects of the clawhold" - The announcer
JJ's cigar goes flying
This went to a 15 minute draw, which they gave away by creating a 15 minute time limit. Not a great one by any means. It was rather slow, the crowd wasn't too loud and the work was just not there. There was nothing that bad, but they didn't connect that well on multiple strikes and Ken oversold for just about everything. There wasn't much story to it aside from Patera and JJ Dillion cheating early on and then later it became them trying to avoid the claw. JJ got involved and got chased multiple times and it was cool to see his cigar fly when he finally got caught and that was one of the few highlights along with Spoiler throwing bombs on Patera in the corner(as seen above) and I really did like the Spoiler winding up before attempting the claw.

Houston Wrestling 10/8/1972 - Dick Murdoch vs Terry Gordy

Houston Wrestling 10/8/1972 - Dick Murdoch vs Terry Gordy

Sugar Ray Murdoch

Dick Murdoch beat Terry Gordy with an elbow drop. This was a very different match than anything you've probably seen. This was almost all punches and elbows with little wrestling or flying and it worked. This was two tough guys going toe to toe and standing off with each other and it was fascinating. It wasn't a 5 star affair or anything and they really didn't do anything fancy, but they threw good looking shots and bumped around for each other for 12 minutes. This was what you might expect a match between two cowboys to look like and it definitely is worth a look to see wrestling done in a different way. Both men bumped great here and really did well with some of the basics of wrestling.

AWA 4/3/1986 - Playboy Buddy Rose and Doug Somers vs Leon White(Vader) and Jesse Hernandez

AWA 4/3/1986 - Playboy Buddy Rose and Doug Somers vs Leon White(Vader) and Jesse Hernandez

Doug Summers beat Jesse Hernandez with a suplex while Vader was chasing around Buddy. Really fun match.  The whole story here was Vader just being a tank and the heels not being able to handle him on their own or even together. They bumped, they sold and they absolutely made him look like a million bucks. AWA Vader is so much fun and Buddy Rose was absolutely fantastic here, just totally getting his role and taking all of the viewers to school for Heeling 101. You come out watching this and you start thinking "For heels, there's Buddy Rose, and then there is everyone else". This was a total masterpiece for the role he was playing and everyone should be checking this out. This was even more fun than I had expected and Buddy is quickly making the case for GOAT in my eyes.
